((USS Chin’toka, Deck 10, Science Complex))

Stapledon Okay.  Well what we need to do is decide how much of what's left in the science labs actually needs to be there.

Talyra: I do not believe I can think of anything else we can put away in Astrometrics and Stellar Cartography unless you mean to shut down that section entirely. Should we start taking things apart?

Viala: Perhaps we can store it in the operations department. I am sure they won’t mind.

Stapledon:  Well no, not quite that drastic.  We want to put it into storage for the rest of the ship to be able to use.

Talyra: Are the biologists being lazy again?

There was a grin

Viala: Are we to separate the geologist from their rocks?

Talyra: I know what they do to those. I’m not touching them.

Viala: Ah, we need to jettison the geology lab then. That should free up space.

Stapledon: Well, no, removing rocks won't help and besides they're not really the problem.

Talyra: Well, be more specific. Most of what is left is specialist equipment, research data, and whatever they were up to in Lab Three.

Viala: Why are we even reducing all our equipment. Has Starfleet come up with another idea on the levels of genius equal to a fleet formation mode that we need to make room for? Or perhaps the admirals believe we need more flashy lasers so people take us seriously? Room for more nacelles, I hear more nacelles make us go faster?

This didn't seem to be working.  Kim thought for a moment.  Responding sarcastically might alienate them further.  Pretending to be maternal and saying "now now" wasn't her style either.

Stapledon: At the moment we still have a bunch of transport crates held in lab.  They may have been useful at one point but right now they're just taking up space and awkwardly stacked.

Talyra: Oh, was that it was? From what I smelled when I passed by it this morning, I thought someone burnt their fish while simultaneously trying to sacrifice some poor long dead animal.

Viala: I would not rule that out entirely, some people would go straight to animal sacrifices to fix their technical issues before trying to turn their devices on and off again.

Stapledon:  I certainly hope there won't be animal sacrifices.  ::Kim smiled::.

Talyra: Response

Viala: So all of this is in regards to the new upgrades to the ship?

Stapledon:  Yes, and we get an opportunity to decide how we'll use the space.

She began walking, the others following her as she made her way into one of the labs where the crates were.

Talyra: Response

Viala: don’t understand why we can’t just get security officers to do this. Not like it requires brain power, and it would certainly be more helpful than guarding doors or strolling through hallways.

Stapledon:  Because it's fun.  Also, it makes good variety in your mind when you just move your body around.

Kim lifted one of the crates, moving it to the towed transport skid she'd requested.

Talyra/Viala: Response

Stapledon:  Don't you like ::She hefted another stack of empty crates and placed it on the skid::  being able to decide where you'll put your stuff?  Like The Device of Selenium over there...

She looked over at the giant warrior-with-sword statue she and Grallator had bought at the hobby shop, suddenly wondering if it had been such a good idea to purchase after all.

Talyra/Viala: Response

Kim snorted and laughed.

Stapledon:  Yeah, because it adds character.  ::Gesturing toward the statue::  You know, he could be a good conversation starter and, for officers who are particularly shy / perhaps even on the spectrum, he can act as a focus during conversations where eye contact will disrupt cognition.

Talyra/Viala: Response
