“Skyfall”

((Mountains, South Of The Wreckage, Ah’rak IV))

Seleya: =/\= Sorry to jump in, numbers, training, and armaments would be the most useful data, any little bit can help.

T’Ama: =/\= ::snippy:: At least fourteen. Four down. Ballistic firearms, no energy weapons. Various knives and cudgels. Not enough guns to go around. No uniforms. Amateurs, likely. =/\=

Brodie nodded. They didn’t sound well equipped, that was true, but they sounded like they had a shared cause - and that was also dangerous..

Brodie: =/\= Amateurs or not they only need to get lucky once. =/\=

Seleya: =/\= Thank you, commander. How possible would it be for you to get back to the brig? =/\=

T’Ama: =/\= Easily, but we can’t stay there. =/\=

Brodie: =/\= Try not to get too separated - there’s safety in numbers. =/\=

Serala: =/\= Okay, thank you T’Ama. Do what you can and stay in contact. We’re working on a plan. Serala out. =/\=

T’Ama: =/\= ::sarcastically:: Okay, BYE. =/\=

The comm cut and Brodie turned to the others.

Brodie: Well…she doesn’t seem too worried.

Serala: I think we need to step up our timetable. One circuit of the ship, then we go in. Sooner, depending on what happens inside. I am going to contact Sherlock and see where she is on getting that permission from the government.

Seleya: Aye, Captain.

Brodie: Let’s see what she’s got to say…we could do with a break.

Serala: =/\= Captain Serala to Commander Sherlock. =/\=

Sherlock: =/\= I'm here, Captain. =/\=

Serala: =/\= Commander, I hope the local officials can hear me, because time is running out and I need an answer. =/\=

Sherlock: =/\= They'll let us get our people back. =/\=

Serala: =/\= Good work, Commander. We’ll be taking a team in shortly. Serala out. =/\=

Serala: Okay, we’re going in. I would have liked more time to recon, but we’re going with what we have. Seleya, load those plans into your tricorder. You’ll be in charge of the security teams. Counselor, you’ll be along, but your main job is to engage in discussions with the terrorists when we engage. I still don’t want to harm anyone.

Alex nodded.

Brodie: Understood although if hostilities start it might be difficult to stop them. Heavy stuns…like you say we don't want to hurt anyone unless we have to.

Serala: I retain overall command. We go in through the opening in the valley wall, then proceed cautiously inside.

Seleya: Aye Captain. I will get the security team ready.

Brodie: ::Turning to Serala as he adjusted his kit:: Rebels with a cause…I’ve got a horrible feeling there’s a piece of a larger puzzle we’re not seeing here.

Serala: Response

Brodie: Well, it might just be my general paranoia but it’s kept me alive this long.

They watched as Seleya got the main security team ready to enter the wreckage. They didn’t need to worry about the official side of things at least.

He looked around the valley and could feel the hairs on his neck stand up - that primal lizard part of his brain nagging at him.

It was the calm…that was always what it was. That moment of quiet before tactical action, or before a prison riot, or before a volatile patient exploded - this felt like that.

They watched Seleya come back towards them.

Serala: Response

Brodie: Like I’ve said before - nothing would give me greater pleasure than to be wrong.

The Kazleti came back to the other two officers.

Seleya: Security is ready, Captain. But I would like to raise a concern that the Terrorist having a strong anti-warp stance and seeming to be against aliens, they may not want to negotiate with an alien from a warp capable species and that may put Doctor Brodie in danger.

Brodie: I appreciate your concern but hopefully they can be reasoned with - if nothing else to buy our tactical team more time to get positioned.

Serala: Response

Seleya left to rejoin the security team and Brodie took his field glasses off his belt to get a better feel for things…there wasn’t much to see but, as it transpired, there was something to hear.

T’Ama: =/\= T’Ama to Serala. There’s no more time. You guys need to get in here now. The brig escape was loud and three are injured. We have to move, but we aren’t moving fast. =/\=

Serala: =/\= response =/\=

T’Ama: =/\= Thanks. =/\=

Seleya: Sounds like we may not have time to negotiate. I am sorry doctor, but we need to extract our people.

Brodie: Agreed - hopefully it can remain on the table be we need to get them out of there. Based on what T’Ama told us we can’t have them recaptured.

Serala: Response

And then the calm became the storm.

It started slowly…a low rumbling…he scanned the wreck to see if it was something set off by the apparent jail break, maybe a power system detonation? T’Ama could certainly be resourceful and it would take a brave person to bet against Is'Kah…but there was nothing there.

What he did notice through was the shadow. It put him in mind of the highlands of Scotland, the clouds visibly blocking out the sun on the hills around highlands…but it was a clear day. He turned his gaze towards the sky, taking care to avoid the sun, and could barely believe what he was seeing.

Some…thing…was falling and then the Chin’toka broke the plane with a thunderous roar as it punched into the upper atmosphere. The vessel ripped through the sky, tearing it as it formed a huge halo of condensing water and heat as it engaged its tractor beam to arrest the fall of the object before trying to arrest its own descent and pull away from the gravity of Ah’rak-Four…

Then the sound and pressure wave hit them - kicking dust and debris into the air and filling that dust air with a cacophonous roar and wind. The still valley was now a dustbowl.

Brodie pulled his jacket over his face to shield himself from the worst as best as he could and he saw Seleya fall. She looked like she was screaming but he couldn’t hear anything over the din of the Chin’toka’s departure.

He’d lost sight of the Captain too which was concerning as she’s only been a few feet away moments before.

Brodie: Captain?!

Serala: Response

Brodie: I’ll try and get to her! What the hell was that?!

He didn’t expect her to have any better answers than he had but right now they had at least four injured crew down here who were in immediate danger.

Serala: Response

Brodie skittered across the rocks trying to get to where he had seen Seleya. He found her uniform torn and struggling - the noise clearly overwhelming her. He wasn’t an expert on Kazleti by any stretch but their susceptibility to aural stimulation and overload.

He glanced at her wordlessly, more noise wasn’t needed here, and he pulled his own jacket off and pulled it around her shoulders to cover her up. Then he unclipped his tricorder to check her physically.

Seleya/Serala: Response

Brodie: We need to get our people out of there…and we need to get back to the ship.

Seleya/Serala: Response

Brodie: Well, that will have almost certainly disorientated them as much as it has us…we might have an opportunity to tag our team and get out of here.

Seleya/Serala: Response

TBC
