Wright: I'm sorry. I have tried this before, you know. Briefly, when I was a kid and more extensively with Is'kah and Stoval. I'm just...I might be a lost cause, ma'am. Something in me just doesn't work they way it should.

It was uncommon for these techniques to not work, but not completely unheard of either. There were a few other techniques she could try, so she settled on one that made the most sense to her.

Indobri: I would like to try something else then, if you’re willing. It will require an active mental connection on my part, and I won’t be able to sustain it for long periods of time because it can cause synaptic damage if I do. But for short, guided sessions it could work.

Wright: Are you sure that's safe for you. I mean, everyone but Stoval who ends up in my head....doesn't have a good time.

She nodded. Hana Wright had been referred to her because of an incident on Ah’rak IV where her uncontrolled telepathy had led to undesired difficulties. But the advantage Karise had was that she was four-lobed and therefore naturally resistant to other telepaths. And hers was strong enough that she could also ensure that Hana didn’t do anything that Karise didn’t want.

Indobri: You won’t be able to force me, and I can observe and guide. Instead of just focusing on visualization, what I am considering is observing your thoughts and helping you to focus on just one of them. It will take time and practice, but if we can manage it, this will have the same effect as visualization would for the average student.

Wright: Um...okay. If you think it will help.

Indobri: I would expect that you will have some questions or concerns before we begin. Would you like to address those now?

Wright: I mean, not really? I don't know enough to have questions really. I just...I hope I'm not a lost cause. I don't like hurting othes and frankly, I'm a little scared of the things my power can do.

Indobri: :: nodding :: It should be scary, Hana. That’s why it’s important to learn control. What’s the biggest concern for you?

Wright: I'm sure a lot of it is psychological, but I also missed out on any form of guidance early on. My mother left me when I was a baby and I was the only telepath in my home colony. I'm sure there are a bunch of rules and taboos about being a proper telepath but I was never taught any of them.

Indobri: No? Not even at the Academy?

She found that odd, but perhaps she’d had a reason for not taking those classes. Whatever the reason, Karise was here to teach her.

Wright: I'm ready. I just hope you don't find anything permanently broken up there and don't blame me if you get hurt.

As Hana pulled Teela closer, Karise nodded and looked her in the eyes. It wasn’t strictly necessary, but it helped her focus. She began to push at the edges of Hana’s mind and waited for the woman’s mind to accept her contact. Since Hana had no control yet, it didn’t take much and she was in. Karise started a mental clock because she knew her own telepathy could cause real damage if sustained for too long, and began to connect with Hana.

Indobri: Now, try to picture a place where you’ve always felt relaxed and at peace.

Wright: Response

She waited for the image to take shape and smiled inwardly, sharing the emotion with Hana.

Indobri: Okay, this is good. Now, if things start to get too personal, I want you to tell me and I will leave right away. I am not here to invade your privacy.

Wright: Response

Although she could see the scenery, this was a guided meditation so she asked Hana to describe the scene.

Indobri: Tell me about what we’re seeing here. Where is this place and what is it’s significance for you?

Wright: Response
