((Observation Lounge, Deck 6, USS Chin’toka))
{{Time Index: New Year’s Eve, Evening}}
It was their first official date since Chythar had come aboard. The days between had been hectic in Engineering for Lael, to say the least, especially with the project that Lephi had proposed. They’d worked long hours, but it was finally ready to present to the Captain. Tonight was a night for celebration and they’d both agreed to make it a bit more special. The year was ending, after all, and a new one was due to start.
Lael had opted for a body-hugging, silver sequined off-the-shoulder a-line dress and a pair of black heels to match. Silver triangular dangled from her ears and a silver heart locket was secured on a chain around her neck.
Chythar had been busy as well, between shifts in sickbay and making sure all the models were built. He still hadn’t gotten around to actually having a conversation with the ops officer regarding which lounge would best suit his purpose for the impending BC opening, but he knew that he’d need to at some point. Tonight was not that night, as they were busy celebrating. Carter had agreed to take Maddy and the pets for the night, so Chythar and Lael could enjoy a night of adult merriment alone. They’d opted to eat out in the lounge, since neither was really in a mood to cook.
The doc’s attire was a red and green button down long-sleeved plaid shirt, perhaps the most festive piece of attire he owned, along with a pair of black jeans and his boots. His watch was secured on his wrist on a leather bracer-type watchband, which he’d made himself.
As they entered the lounge, Lael felt a bit of a chill from the recycled air and hugged the black bolero closer. It would at least protect her shoulders. They finally found a table in the throng and Lael searched the crowd for a galley crewman to order drinks and dinner. The room had been turned into a haven for officers seeking to unwind and herald in the New Year. Limited drinks and meals were served to make it an even more memorable experience.
Her gaze flickered toward the windows, which provided a lovely, romantic view of the stars. A smile curved the corners of her lips. How fitting given that she and Chythar both lived for the stars and traveling to them.
CD’s calmness was possibly too well-practiced, but also by the fact that he was alone with his lady. Despite the fact she was dragging him out for a quiet night somewhere public, he didn’t feel the social awkwardness that had plagued him in the past. Perhaps, at this point in his life, he’d become jaded to the public spectacle, and his acclimation to being around other people was complete. Perhaps it was the fact that he was still getting used to being a dad, since this was the first time he’d actually gotten a chance to share quarters with Lael and Maddy since the adoption.
Rosek: Isn’t this place beautiful? ::smirks:: The galley crew really went all out tonight.
Skyfire: Aye, it is. Beautiful. :: He paused briefly for a moment and smiled at her. :: Just like you.
Many men over the years had complimented her appearance, but with Chythar, it was different. She knew that his was genuine and complimented more than her looks. Smiling sheepishly, she laid a hand on top of his and squeezed.
Rosek: ::teases:: You’re easy on the eyes yourself there, handsome.
It was a joke, but they both knew there was more to it than that. In her wildest dreams, she couldn’t have imagined a man who understood her so well and fit her so perfectly. Years of waiting and she’d finally found something that could truly last forever. Out of the corner of her eye, she noted a crewman approaching their table.
Without hesitation, she ordered them a bottle of Hakkaisan Tokubetsu Junmai to share. It was what they’d drank all those months ago on the magical night that had transformed their friendship into something more. Though it wasn’t a traditional New Years’ beverage, it was theirs.
CD noted the label and smiled softly, resisting the urge to lapse into Japanese. It didn’t mesh with the Scots-Irish brogue he sometimes adopted. As such, he decided to keep his words in Federation Standard, for the moment.
Skyfire: Interesting beverage choice.
Rosek: ::smirks:: You know me. Hopeless romantic.
Several moments later, the crewman returned to the table with the bottle and two glasses.
Rosek: ::to Skyfire:: Well, they probably won’t have decent sushi.
The crewman handed them a PADD containing the menu for the evening.
Crewman: These are the selections we have available.
After studying the menu for several minutes, Chythar smiled and ordered a few different types: tekka makki, spicy tuna rolls without the avocado, tuna nigiri and miso soup for two. To add to all of this, he did so in Japanese. Despite the fact his on again off again accent had somewhat confused the crewman a little, the fellow wandered off to go fill the order.
She accepted the glass of sake Chythar poured for her and inhaled the scent of it. It was certainly less pungent than wine, which was a shame given Lael’s dulled sense of smell and taste. All the same, she enjoyed the beverage for the memories more than the taste itself.
Rosek: ::grins and lifts her glass:: To another year of facing danger and living to tell the tale.
Skyfire: I will totally drink to that. :: He raised his glass and clinked it against hers. ::
Pulling her glass back, she took a small drink and smiled.
Rosek: It’s been a year of change, that’s for certain.
Chythar nodded in silent agreement, and said nothing. He was enjoying the drink, the view, and the company. All of which were lovely. He felt at ease during a holiday party, for the first time in nearly six years. Or was it seven by now? The years sorta blended together.
She opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off by the arrival of a familiar face. Setting the glass down on the table, she rose to hug the new arrival before pulling back to eye the woman’s outfit.
Rosek: Esa! You look lovely!
Kiax: Response
Rosek: ::grins:: Just celebrating the new year with my partner. Our first official night out since he came aboard. ::motions to Chythar:: I don’t know if you’ve met, but Esa, this is Chythar. Chythar, this is our Operations Chief Esa Kiax.
Kiax: Response
The doctor inclined his head in greeting and snapped his fingers as he came to a realization, putting the name, spots and authorization together in the same sentence in his head.
Skyfire: A pleasure to meet you, Esa. I’ve been meaning to talk to you, actually. When you have a minute, of course. It is sort of work-related, but it can wait. Just need to get it done before the awards ceremony.
Kiax: Response
As the group was talking, another familiar pair approached and Lael arched an eyebrow.
Rosek: ::turns to Chythar:: I see we’re not the only ones looking to celebrate tonight.
Raga / Journs: Response
Rosek: ~ I know this was supposed to be just us, but would you mind if I invited them to join us? ~
The doc arched a brow in slight confusion, not recognizing any of the others to whom Lael was referring. It took him a moment to notice the pair as the sake was starting to get to him.
Skyfire: ~ You’ll have to introduce me. I’m sure I’ll be healing them eventually. ~
Raga / Journs / Kiax / Any: Response
