OOC: Since this is my 8 year marker with the group and by permission of the skipper, I am posting a milestone sim to celebrate my time in the fleet. I enjoy writing with you all, and look forward to another 8 years of awesome stories.
(( Skyfire & Rosek’s Quarters, USS Chin’toka ))
(( Time Index: 239802.17 ))
Chythar sat at his desk, the beagle resting on his lap. He glanced at his 8 years worth of service history told in patch collections, and he was realizing he needed to add the Chin’toka to it. He vaguely recalled the day of his graduation and how he nearly killed his career the moment he expressed his concerns to his department chief aboard Ops all those years ago, followed by receiving the bitter news about his father.
In 2391, he was aboard the USS Excalibur-A under then-fleet-Captain Kali Nicholotti and had his DNA messed with as he assisted a patient with their sensory difficulties, resulting in his earliest T/E rating. He bonded with Sal Taybrim as not only a counselor, but as a brother just after he was promoted to lieutenant JG, and had a few problems early on in his love life.
As a lieutenant aboard the USS Garuda in 2392, he had some more misadventures in romance and did more reckless activities, and adopted little Devlin after Alora and Greywin practically guilted him into doing so. Through all his actions, that was the first time he actually earned the title of chief medical officer, rather than acting chief or assistant chief. That was the year he’d served aboard Garuda, Invicta, Columbia, and Gorkon, adopted Raissa Moonsong as family, and received the mental headache from hell during a cycle of addiction as he first came to grips with his increased telepathic rating.
By 2393, he had been adopted by Sasha Moonsong et al as family, worn the red collar as a first officer aboard an active starship rather than aboard a training vessel; along with a brief stint as a mission specialist. Romance aside, it was during this time he met Lael and Alex, with some of the best memories and worst moments in his career, along with the rescue from the Dominion-ruled alternate universe. Many personal realizations, many friends lost, and an emotional metaphorical ball of yarn as he comes to grips with the backlash from his emotions.
In 2394 saw a near-death experience or two, his nickname of “Lazarus” and his introduction to the Brew Continuum. Several complexities about the transfers, his ability to mentor a youngling in the ways of medicinal arts, and embraced the religion that he follows to this day.
Each year brought its own challenge: 2395 brought more transfers, along with a few mission related fiascos and his sudden return to Earth to deal with the aftermath of a bar brawl at his uncle’s coffee shop, the Raktajino. After spending a bit of time working there as a barista, he returned to the Veritas and had a few close encounters before he was transferred to the Montreal.
As he entered 2396, after encountering a case of deja-vu from earlier in his career, he stepped down as Mei’konda’s CMO to return to Earth for counseling and to enjoy civilian life for a while. He and Alex Blair broke up, but he still keeps Alex’s marine dog tags around a photograph of the two of them. He also worked on developing the hybrid-friendly anti-radiation serum.
At the beginning of 2397, he had officially become a father to little Maddy when the adoption papers were finalized, and realized about the same time that he was actually in love with Lael. Near the middle of last year, he met a half sister he didn’t know he had by his father, and said his final farewell to his old friend Alleran Mapak. Just before the year ended, he proposed to Lael on new year’s eve, so he could enjoy 2398 with the family he had long desired.
Now, two months in, and on the anniversary of his graduation he glanced at his patch collection. The date plaques beneath the patches contained so many memories. He petted Devlin’s head and smiled down at his beagle-friend.
Skyfire: How far we’ve come, hey Devlin?
Devlin: Raff raff!
Skyfire: Indeed, boy. Indeed…
He got lost in the memories and allowed himself to stare a bit longer at the display cases with the patches in them for a few minutes longer. Devlin rested quietly on his lap, almost dozing off as he was petted.
