((OOC: Any thoughts or feelings belong to the character.))

((Village, Surface of PTE - 2891’s Fourth Planet))

The energy creature floated silently for long moments. Suddenly, Kas heard what he presumed to be several other voices join the first. Their conversation was staticky at best and the sheer volume caused him to wince and his head to throb.

Aimot: ~ How can you be certain you are not their puppets? Your memories have been erased. ~

Vorenus: Well for one thing, they attacked us.

Kesex: Well, the only way to know for sure is to give them back to us.

Aimot: ~ So you can destroy us once they have? ~

Kesex: If that had been our intention, we would have come around that corner shooting.

Snow: We may not have our memories, but I can assure you we didn’t come to destroy anyone or anything.

Vorenus: We just want to remember who we were and go home.

Snow: And we would have not hesitated to set the settings to kill instead of stun. Our intention wasn’t to cause harm to anyone, just to merely figure out who we are and how to get back home.

The creature paused for a long moment, seeming to consider what they had said. Kas shifted himself so that he stood behind Elizabeth. His natural instinct was to take the lead, but something in Elizabeth’s presence told him that he should give her that opportunity. As a healer, perhaps she would be a better person to gain trust and build a rapport. She wasn’t a warrior like he or Vorenus, so her thoughts and intentions would likely be better suited to a task like this.

For a long moment, the being said nothing and the hum of many voices echoed in his mind. He couldn’t quite make sense of what they were saying. Suddenly, the noise stopped and the creature seemed to fix its attention on Elizabeth. He was nervous at first, but resisted the temptation to jump into protective mode. She would let him know somehow if she was uncomfortable or needed help.

Aimot: ~ I am Aimot. ~

A name. That was good. Names usually didn’t come into play until there was some trust.

Kesex: ::nods:: Good to meet you, Aimot. I’m Kas.

 Vorenus: Response

Snow: Out of curiosity and in no way to be rude, so please don’t take offense, but did you do this to us? Maybe in fear that we were possibly a threat?

Aimot: ~ We have been observing you since your arrival. When our corporeal guards first brought you here, they asked us to ascertain your motives. However, before we could comply, they were…overzealous. The ones responsible for your imprisonment located and used technology from the time of the pointed-eared ones which sifts memories. Unfortunately, this caused damage to your minds. We weren’t certain if we could repair it given that we know so little about your physiology. ~

His brow furrowed. So the non-corporeal beings weren’t directly responsible and yet, it was their technology that had caused this. And damage to their minds? Would they ever fully recover their memories. That made him more than a little nervous. He didn’t recall any of this, so he had no accurate measure of what his state had been immediately after the device was used for comparison. It would likely take more advanced equipment than they had on hand here to determine that.

Kesex: And the ones who were overzealous?

Aimot: ~ They were banished from this place to fend for themselves. ~

He wasn’t sure the punishment was severe enough to fit the feelings of being violated. Someone had invaded his safe place–his mind–and corrupted it, taking everything he knew from him. What punishment could fit that aside from an eye for an eye so to speak? He tensed but forced himself to remain calm. Hurting those who had hurt him wouldn’t bring peace and it wasn’t who he was.

Vorenus: Response

Snow: You’re in our minds right now. Are you detecting deceit from any of us?

Aimot’s gaze flickered to each of them in turn, its gaze lingering a moment or two longer on Vorenus before responding.

Aimot: ~ No. However, there are still pieces missing that could change that. ~

Vorenus: Reponse

Snow: We may not be able to recall the information to answer your questions, but it’s there inside our minds. You’re welcome to venture further into my mind. That way you’ll have a better understanding of who we are, why we are here, and see that we speak the truth.

Vorenus: Reponses

He watched Elizabeth lay her weapon on the ground and push it away with her foot. It was a big gamble, but not a completely unreasonable one. Following her lead, he did the same and his gaze went to Vorenus, jerking his head subtly in the creature’s direction. Though it was unnerving to be vulnerable before a creature he didn’t entirely understand and still couldn’t quite predict, he trusted Elizabeth’s judgment.

Snow: Trust is a two-way street. Sometimes, you have to take a leap of faith and make the first move. ::looking at the trio she arrived with:: Don't tell me you wouldn’t have stunned first and asked questions later if you feared your planet and people were possibly in danger. Besides, if they were truly hostile, do you think we’d really be able to defend against them? ::looking back at the entity::

He stepped closer to Elizabeth, though not to protect her as he normally would. Instead, his hand found hers and he squeezed it, feeling his heart miss a beat at the warmth and softness of it against his own. A gesture of support and trust that he hoped only reinforced to the creatures what she was saying. They were warriors when they had to be, but they hadn’t wanted to stun those guards any more than those guards had wanted to be stunned. It was an act of desperation, trying to survive without taking lives.

Kesex: We are sorry about your guards. We didn’t know any of this and were simply trying to survive.

Aimot seemed to focus on him and Elizabeth for a long moment before it turned to face Vorenus and Einar. Suddenly, the creature became very still and the cacophony of humming resumed. It endured longer this time and was even more chaotic. It was several long moments before the creature spoke again.

Aimot: ~ I can attempt to stimulate the return of your memories. However, there is a risk that I may cause more damage. ~

Kas’s immediate thought was to offer himself. Certainly, Elizabeth couldn’t be the test subject. Not only were her skills more valuable, but she also seemed to be recovering her memories more quickly. His spots indicated they were likely of different worlds. Was it perhaps something about her physiology that made her mind more adaptable and less easily damaged?

Vorenus: Response

As much as he understood Vorenus’s need to know who he was, the man’s actions so far made him nervous. What if he was restoring the memories of someone dangerous or what if Aimot did do more damage, which resulted in Vorenus’s self-control and regulation of himself being obliterated entirely? No. It was logical that he go first. If he made it through, then he’d consider Vorenus being next in line.

Kesex: I should go first. In case there are side effects. Then the rest of you can make an informed decision.

Vorenus / Snow: Response

Kesex: I’m fully aware of the potential consequences and am more than willing to take the risk. Please. It is my decision to make and I ask that each of you respect it.

Vorenus / Snow: Response
