(( Counselling Suites, Deck Ten, USS Chin’toka ))
It had been a long day. What made it long wasn’t a mountain of PADDwork to conquer or a lot of people to meet. In fact, it was the distinct absence of any of that that made the day seem long for V’Nille. Being docked for shore leave and a refit meant almost everyone was off the ship for one reason or another and her initial plans for the day completely fell through when the other person had something come up at the last minute. Even the holodeck had been booked for the day.
It was not a good combination for the stocky Caitian who thrived best when she had something to actively engage in. She had been lying in her hammock, swinging slightly as she stared at the ceiling when she asked the fateful question.
V’Nille: Computer, is there anyone on the ship that’s not in their quarters or in the holodeck right now that I can talk to?
Computer: Lieutenant Commander Brodie is in the Counseling Suites on Deck Ten. Lieutenant -
V’Nille: No, Brodie’s perfect. Thanks.
And now, she was standing in the front of the door, a box tucked under one arm as she pushed the chime for entrance. She started to despair that she was going to talk to anyone by the second chime.
Brodie: ::Taking a sip:: Come in…
V’Nille excitedly walked in through the open door and stood near where Brodie lounged, holding the box in her hands like it was an offering.
V’Nille: Good evening, Doctor. Might I trouble you for some conversation?
Brodie: ::Sitting up and smiling:: We are open all hours…as long as you don’t mind the less than regulation "jacket off" approach.
V’Nille: Excellent! Casual works best for me anyway. And maybe while I’m here, you can help me work through something.
Brodie: Response
She nodded as she looked around for a chair to sit on and a table to put the box down on, finding both conveniently close to each other and the couch. Once she had the box on the table, she opened it to reveal pieces of carved wood in the shape of small animals and what seemed like parts of a tree.
V’Nille: Well, I am mostly here for someone just to talk to but you are a psychologist, right? I might as well pick your brain about something that’s been bugging me while we are both here.
Brodie: Response
V’Nille gave him a toothy grin, a gesture learned from being around so many humans, and started pulling out the wooden pieces and spreading them throughout the coffee table’s surface.
V’Nille: How familiar are you with Caitian puzzles, Doctor? Specifically, the three-dimensional ones like this?
Brodie: Response
V’Nille: Well, the important thing is that the ones made by us are specifically designed to appeal to our senses, and I don’t just mean aesthetically. I speak of the way this looks and smells to us. Humans, as I understand it, generally have eyes designed to see more detailed colors than Caitians typically do. Meanwhile, our eyes are that much more attuned to low-light environments and detecting movement. Our noses, on the other hand, are much more sensitive than yours.
She offered one of the animal shaped pieces to Brodie, holding it between two of her four fingers for him to take.
V’Nille: Tell me, what does this piece look and smell like to you?
Brodie: Response
