to USS Chin'toka – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG

(( SS Nairobi, Main Passenger Area ))

Amidst a flock of surly marines and gabby rangers, sat the angular-faced Sepulsra Hex, subtly smiling, despite the foray of thoughts all around her. If her brothers, Beimal and Deimad, could see her now, she’d never hear the last of it - those brutes. Her smile became a grin. Shimmering below her face, was a PADD displaying some information about the Chin’toka, her soon to be new home.

A Marine: Off to the Chin’toka, then?

Hex lifted her eyes before her head.

Hex: I am.

She then lifted her head fully and beamed at the man, gesturing for him to sit next to her.

Marine: ::looking at the PADD:: She’s a beast!

Hex: I do like that word!

Hex laughed knowingly, then looked around for a moment. In the passenger area, individuals walked on by, many sat in circles chattering, some sat alone - anxiously shivering their legs - some eagerly watched the stars outside. Humans, Bolians, Trill, it was a diverse ship - with diverse minds. But there was no time for superfluous thought-dipping - the Marine beside her saw to that.

Marine: On the way to the new colony, m’self. There’s a whole regiment of us here.

Hex: ::acting surprised:: Are you?

Marine: Can I ask you a question?

oO You will anyway! Oo

Hex: You absolutely can.

The Marine fixed his posture, seemingly preferring her company over his colleagues in the regiment, at least at this precise moment. Hex crossed her legs and leaned her chin against one of her hands, waiting for the conundrum of a question he was currently brewing up. Such an interesting face he had - beaten skin, glassy eyes, and a fabulously large nose that she could probably use as a clothes hanger.

Marine: Bajoran wine or Tellarite beer?

Hex:
That’s a ridiculous question.

She relaxed her shoulders and winked at him.

Hex: … obviously Tellarite beer.

=/\= Attention all passengers. Now approaching the USS Chin’toka. Crew, please prepare to disembark. =/\=

(( Shuttlebay One, USS Chin’toka ))

As the doors of the Volga class runabout opened, Hex made her way down the ramp of the door with a small bag over her shoulder, and into the shuttlebay, emblazoned by bright lights, the sound of voices and a gentle, purring noise emanating from the ship itself; the Chin’toka. The beast, as the Marine had put it. She indulged for a moment.

Mei’konda: Plenty of other planets in the Federation with rivers.  Like Betazed.

It was unmistakable - that was Captain Mei’konda Delano. And he was spot on about Betazed.

Mei’konda: Ensign Hex?  Captain Mei’konda Delano.  These are some of the shiip’s senior officers.  Lieutenant Commander Lael Rosek, mission specialiist.  Lieutenant Commander Esa Kiax, chief of operations.  Lieutenant Amuro McKnight, one of our security officers, and Lieutenant Commander Charmaine Ning, a member of the shiip’s scientific complement.  Welcome aboard.

Hex: That’s me - in the flesh. How lovely it is to meet you, Captain. Commanders. Lieutenant.

Hex graciously smiled at them all, being sure to get a good look. Something struck her about one or two of them, but now wasn’t the time for a barrage of instinctive remarks - now was the time for saying hello.

Rosek / Kiax / McKnight: Responses

Hex: I came here on the SS Nairobi, would you believe.

Rosek: Response

Hex: A few Rangers and a lively bunch of Marines - what more could you want?

oO That Tellarite beer and private quarters, for one. Oo

McKnight: Response

Hex: They did say I’d be travelling in style.

Ning: Response

Mei’konda: I hope that your triip aboard the Nairobi was a comfortable one, Ensign.  Commander Kiax here will assign you quaarters, if she hasn’t already.

Hex stifled the urge to go into a medley about her interesting experience aboard the Nairobi, thinking of all the hardened men and women on board laughing and sharing anecdotes about each other, as well as the disastrously uncomfortable passenger area and creaking sounds, so instead she simply pressed her lips together into a tender smirk.

Hex: It was a trip,  to say the least, Captain - thank you. I have to ask - before that - is there anything I should know about right away? ::looking between the officers::

Kiax: Response

Mei’konda / Rosek / McKnight: Response

Hex: ::raising her eyebrows:: I’ll be sure to remember that. For now though, if you’ll excuse me - it’s a pleasure to meet you all, and do come and see me anytime you like. Unless you hear me singing...then run a mile.

Mei’konda / Rosek / McKnight: Response
