((Security Chief’s Office., Deck 11, USS Chin’toka, Spacedock 1, Earth))
Is’Kah: This is a two-way conversation, Ensign. Please feel free to ask questions about the ship or me.
Dasal: Oh sorry- um yes! Conversation, I’m good at those. Hum can I bluntly ask your heritage? I’m guessing Trill but something more. Is that why you asked for this handsome Doctor of genetics because you got some weird ones too? Not that it’s weird of course!
Is’Kah: I am a hybrid of Trill and Vulcan. I had looked into how that was possible when I was a child. It was fascinating.
Vulcan! That made sense, and he probably could have guessed, but you never really knew. He himself was a bit of an oddity and didn’t fit the usual stereotypes.
Dasal: I kind of agree, and understand. It’s a way to learn about yourself beyond what you can see. Like guts!
Dasal: Is security hard? I kind of thought if I failed out of med school I would try my hand at that. I did pretty good with phasers in the one class I did take.
He smiled more when zha did, very glad they were enjoying his long-winded jokes. He’d known plenty of Vulcans in med school who were not particularly happy to hear the sound of his voice.
Is’Kah: Security can be stressful, like when you’ve been captured on a mission and guarded by people holding slug throwers. However, if I compare it to holding engineering together with baling wire, space tape, blood, sweat, and tears, it is simpler.
Dasal: Also forgive me, but why the baby joke? I mean, I could probably make a really cute baby genetically…
As zha seemed to stop and ponder, he took a bigger sip of his tea. Had it been a loaded question? He hoped not they were just getting to the fun part of the conversation.
Is’Kah: I have been thinking a lot about genetics. Doctor Edrei was looking into how to blend cobalt and copper blood types to produce a viable child.
Dasal: Cobalt and copper? So Vulcan and…
His eyes shifted toward the holo-image. Ah—Andorian. He probably should have been able to guess that. So zhen blood type was closer to Vulcan blood type. He wondered if that meant zhen mother had been the Vulcan. That wasn’t always the case, but when it came to blood, most species inherited it from their mother, most, but not all.
Is’Kah: This is my partner on our wedding day. It took place on the USS Ronin. I desire to have children with her, without enhancements. Well, preferably they will be taller than I am, as my parents let chance choose for them.
Dasal: Awe, lil babu chiefs. I will say for half Vulcan you are adorably tiny. In the best way. Hum… When it comes to having children, a lot of this really depends on who’s carrying the pregnancy, since the underlying physiological differences are the first thing we look at. The big issue is preventing maternal antibodies from crossing the placenta and targeting the baby’s blood cells. In most cases, we can manage that with immune globulin to block the antibody response…
He paused as Is’Kah held up a hand. He blinked, staring at zhen for a moment then chuckled. Oh ya, he was just talking wasn’t he.
Is’Kah: Medical never held my interest because there was too much blood for me. Can you explain it to me as if I were five?
Dasal: Sorry oops, doc talk. I guess first. Which one of you would want to carry the baby? I also assume you genetically want it to be both of yours.
Is’Kah: Response
Dasal leaned back in his chair, thinking for a moment as he crossed one leg over the other. Pushing his sleeves up to get more comfortable, he considered it.
Dasal: I couldn’t go into the actual details without some scans and tests. However there are meds and ways to balance things. I think it might take some work but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be doable. Make sure the baby is safe, able to thrive, but let the genetics do its randomness. I get that. See if the baby gets that Vulcan height you didn’t get. ::He winks playfully::
Is’Kah: Response
Dasal: It’s just making sure the baby is safe with its body inside its parents body! Bodies like to be butts when things aren't one to one, so we sometimes need to trick them into one to one. Oh speaking of one to one. Are you joined? Can a half Trill be joined? Hope that isn’t really personal or something.
He gave a reassuring smile. Once they were settled on the ship and everything was in order, he could start putting together a plan with the couple. Checkups, testing—yeah, it really shouldn’t be that hard. Just a bit of extra work, balancing things out and making sure there weren’t any negative reactions between the species.
