Dr. Roshanara Rahman: An Explanation Owed

(OOC: Apologies again for the delay on my end. Appreciate everyone’s understanding.)

((Computer Core, Deck 18, USS Juneau))

As the rest of her team climbed back up the ladder to examine and secure the prisoner, Roshanara stayed on the main floor and tapped her combadge.

Rahman: =/\= Bridge, we have the intruder. He was trying to steal data from the computer core. =/\=

Oddas: =/\= Oddas here.  What's your status? =/\=

Rahman: =/\= We're examining him to find whatever he stole. What’s the situation up there? =/\=

Oddas: =/\= We've managed to destroy the Orion vessel that was harassing us, and made a temporary alliance with a Romulan  Republic vessel. I need you to get all of the information you can from our prisoner before an exchange.  We --  =/\=

Rahman: =/\= Yes, what is it? =/\=

Oddas: =/\= I'll get back to you. =/\=

Roshanara knew what the tone in Aria’s voice meant. The Kriosian had used it herself before on her own bridge in moments of crisis. She quickly closed the com.

Rahman: =/\= Understood. =/\=

When she turned around, she saw Teller heading out the door, Hyden chasing after him. Curious, Roshanara followed the two back out into the corridor and saw that the security officer was blocking his exit.

Hyden: I’m sorry Commander, but in all good consciousness I cannot permit you to go any further.

Teller: Response

The mission specialist walked over to the two officers, her brow furrowed.

Rahman: What’s going on you two?

Hyden: Commander Teller I hereby place you under arrest on the suspicion of breaking Starfleet Regulation 49.09. You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defense if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence. Do you understand?

Teller: Response

Rahman: Lieutenant Hyden, explain what’s going on?

Hyden: Response

Rahman: And you’re certain about this?

Hyden: Response

Rahman: All right, then. In light of this, Commander, I agree that you’re confined to your quarters pending further investigation about what happened.

When Teller tried to explain himself, Roshanara held out her hand for him to stop.

Rahman: Commander, I advise you to remain silent until we clear this up.

Teller: Response

Rahman: Lieutenant, if you’ll escort the commander to his quarters.

Hyden: Response

As the two left, Roshanara watched them and shook her head. What had gone so wrong?

((One day later, outside Teller’s quarters))

Roshanara walked down the corridor and saw Lieutenant Hyden standing guard.

Rahman: Lieutenant.

Hyden: Response

Rahman: How is he doing?

Hyden: Response

The Kriosian nodded, glancing at the closed door for a moment, before returning her attention to the security officer.

Rahman: Look, I want to say first that I know it wasn’t an easy thing for you to do—or witness. You stood up for your principles and what you swore an oath to defend.

Hyden: Response

Rahman: ::nods:: I’m going to talk to him now, but Captain Oddas is releasing him from confinement. There’s been some more information that’s come to light that will be in a full debriefing. I’ll make sure to check in with you if you wish to make any further comments about the matter.

Hyden: Response

(OOC: Can continue as a backsim if necessary)

Rahman: Thank you, lieutenant. I relieve you.

As the other woman left, Roshanara turned to face the door again. Taking a deep breath, she cleared her facial expression, readying herself for the talk ahead.

((Teller’s Quarters))

After opening the doors and stepping inside, Roshanara took a look around. Like the rest of the ship, Teller’s tiny quarters reflected the unfinished state of the prototype. With exposed pipes and wiring along the walls and lack of carpeting, his quarters already were something of a brig in itself.

When she saw him, the engineer was sitting on the small twin bed along the wall.

Rahman: On your feet, Commander.

Teller: Response

Rahman: I’ve read the report. ::shaking head:: And frankly, I don’t know what you were thinking.

Teller: Response

Rahman: All right then, let’s talk. It’s just you and me now. The prisoner was already secured from what I understand. I’ve prosecuted an officer before for the abuse of a prisoner in custody—successfully, I might add. That ended with the officer being demoted and I’d pushed for him to be dismissed from the service.

She didn’t tell him that due to circumstances, that fortunately didn’t happen. Nor that the guilty officer was in fact their own mutual former shipmate, Commander Evan Delano.

Still, her voice was sharp as a bat'leth.

Rahman: So I’m asking you. What the hell happened?
