Hyden: I’m sorry Commander, but in all good consciousness I cannot permit you to go any further.
Teller: Response
Maddi didn’t notice Rahman come up behind Teller. She knew this could be bad, but she wouldn’t relent.
Rahman: What’s going on you two?
Hyden: Commander Teller I hereby place you under arrest on the suspicion of breaking Starfleet Regulation 49.09. You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defense if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence. Do you understand?
Teller: Response
Rahman: Lieutenant Hyden, explain what’s going on?
Hyden: He killed a prisoner with no provocation and didn’t seem to hold any remorse.
Rahman: And you’re certain about this?
Maddi nodded and took a deep breath.
Hyden: Yes, I saw it with my own eyes.
Rahman: All right, then. In light of this, Commander, I agree that you’re confined to your quarters pending further investigation about what happened.
As Teller began to try and justify his actions Rahman held her hand up to indicate he should stop.
Rahman: Commander, I advise you to remain silent until we clear this up.
Teller: Response
Rahman: Lieutenant, if you’ll escort the commander to his quarters.
Hyden: Yes, Ma’am
Maddi had an awful feeling in her stomach. The last thing she wanted to do was arrest someone who had contributed so much, but she was going to do what was right no matter how much it may hurt to do.
She led him to his quarters and hesitated to shut the door. Her heart sank as she looked Teller in the eyes and spoke.
Hyden: I’m sorry.
She shut the door and initiated a security lock on the room. She sighed and shook her head why did it seem like she had betrayed everyone by doing the right thing.
She shook the thought out of her head and began her duties of guarding the quarters.
((One day later, outside Teller’s quarters))
The night had been Kong’s and Maddi’s mind was plagued with doubt as she replayed the scene in her head. What she did was right, but she felt like she had stabbed the crew in the back. A victory was in order, but all Maddi felt was shame. She was snapped out of her thoughts as Rahman neared her.
Rahman: Lieutenant.
Hyden: Captain.
Rahman: How is he doing?
Hyden: Haven’t heard a peep out of him the entire night, but I suspect he was sleeping from how exhausted the entire crew has to be.
The human could see the pause from the Captain knowing she was thinking, but as to what about Maddi was unsure.
Rahman: Look, I want to say first that I know it wasn’t an easy thing for you to do—or witness. You stood up for your principles and what you swore an oath to defend.
Hyden: Thank you Captain. I’ve been fighting my decision all through the night, but your reassurance clears my mind.
Rahman: ::nods:: I’m going to talk to him now, but Captain Oddas is releasing him from confinement. There’s been some more information that’s come to light that will be in a full debriefing. I’ll make sure to check in with you if you wish to make any further comments about the matter.
Hyden: Only if it would be deemed necessary.
Rahman: Thank you, lieutenant. I relieve you.
Hyden: I am relieved. Thank you Captain. I will be in my quarters if you need anything further. Sleep has eluded me for many days.
