((Yinn’s Quarters, Deck 6, USS Octavia E. Butler))
Zarah knew that she had struck gold pressed latinum when she befriended Yinn. Honestly, how could anyone not like her? She was beautiful, smart, and fun, and if she had any romantic inclination toward women, she would have totally asked her. As it was, she enjoyed being her friend, and she especially enjoyed plotting mischievousness with the science officer. Their mission: Prank Director of Intelligence Officer, Commander Margaret Walker. They chose to accept it, and now, they had an idea on what to do.
Johnson: Sounds like we have a plan! Once you get the code, let me know and we’ll work on phase 2!
Jumping up, Yinn executed a playful salute. They were all in.
Yinn: Aye, sir!
((Zarah' Quarters, The Next Day))
When Zarah arrived home from her studies the next day, she found Yinn in her quarters, lounging upon the couch much as she had done at the Bolian’s the day prior. Her mother must have let her in, knowing the two were in cahoots with something, but, perhaps wisely, the engineer said and did nothing. Although Sasha had never said anything, Zarah suspected her mother knew all about JOPA and that they did pranks. Would she help? Maybe, but she wasn’t going to ask. This was her and Yinn’s project, not her mother’s. As soon as Zarah stepped across the threshold, Yinn tossed aside the PADD she had been perusing and announced gravely -
Yinn: It is done.
Johnson: Wow, that was fast!
Yinn: I got lucky. Wauhk needed a specific chain of amino acids, which occur naturally in a fruit that grows on Nelvana III. The fruit is normally served hot, so she had to change her preferences, and she did so very loudly.
Which was why Yinn had suggested her in the first place since it would be easy to hear the woman. With that access, they would be able to access the database and hack in, but without it getting traced to them.
Johnson: Excellent! Well done, Yinn! We’re halfway there!
Yinn: The wind was definitely blowing in our direction. This prank was clearly destined to happen.
Nodding enthusiastically, Zarah plopped down on the couch and flopped next to her friend. Rubbing her chin, she contemplated their next steps. Now was the really hard part, using Whauk’s access was one thing, actually getting to the database and past the protocols to prevent just anyone from changing anyone else’s preferences would likely be a little more difficult - but she didn’t expect it to be overly so.
Johnson: Now, we need to think about our next steps.
Yinn: Response
Johnson: We’ll need to access a console, but we also need to do it somewhere where neither of us will be suspect and erase all traces of our tampering.
Then there were other issues that suddenly came to Zarah’s mind that she hadn’t thought of before. Sitting up, she frowned and leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees.
Yinn: Response
Johnson: We can do that, but the cameras will pick us up. We’re going to have to fool them somehow.
How was the question. They couldn’t just go ask the doctors to change their faces just for a prank and ask them to change back afterward. That would obviously give them away. No, there had to be another way around it.
Yinn: Response
Johnson: Oh I know! Let’s get a holo emitter. Whoever does the actual hacking can use that to disguise themselves. We can then hack away without discovery.
That was the perfect way to fool the cameras!
Yinn: Response
