OOC I imagine this takes place very early in shore leave, probably even before Lia goes off to help with the refugees, so it's most accurately a backsim.

(( Hydroponics, Deck 10 Saucer, USS Octavia E. Butler ))

Perhaps the hydroponics lab wasn't the most obvious place for the meeting, but it was quiet, and Lia valued that quality above most others at the moment. Not that the OEB was particularly busy at the moment, or that the hydroponics lab was usually a hub of activity -- but she was also still learning the new ship, and had yet to visit the lab, and this seemed as good an opportunity as any.

The hydroponics lab was full of walls upon walls and shelves upon shelves of water-fed growth. The lab was meant to be a lab first, and not provide food for the crew -- they weren't an energy-limited deep explorer, and had no need to supplement what the replicators could provide with fresh food -- and as such, there was a pattern to the presence of the plants, an order to their growth, that Lia found perhaps a little too artificial, and wondered as she noticed if she shouldn't have chosen the arboretum. However, plants would be plants, and unruly growth, from unexpected buds to strange tangles of roots in the growth medium, provided the proof of life she hadn't realized she craved.

She'd arrived ahead of the two officers she'd asked to join her, but the yawn of the door presaged their entry, and she turned to them with a smile.

Rouiancet: Avander, Aine. Thank you for joining me.

Promontory / Sherlock: Responses

Lia waved a hand thoughtlessly, taking in the whole lab.

Rouiancet: I'm becoming acquainted with the ship, one room at a time. Have either of you been in here yet?

Promontory / Sherlock: Responses

Rouiancet: (with a small shrug) No, not particularly.

She hesitated a moment, then decided to just plunge onward. Of course they would wonder why their CO had asked them to meet here, and not for the first time Lia reminded herself of the weight each of her decisions now held -- even and perhaps especially the mundane ones.

Rouiancet: Iljor has been offered a command of his own: the repaired and relaunched 'Oumuamua. However, unless anyone specifically requests a transfer, the crew will remain on the Butler. Congratulations are due to him, and he deserves the promotion -- but that also means that the Butler needs a first officer. (to Avander) Avander, I had hoped that you would accept that role. (to Aine) And that you, Aine, would agree to become second officer, in addition to continuing as chief of security.

These were no small asks, she knew, especially after all the change that had occurred recently: the transfers from the 'Oumuamua to the OEB in the first place, following on for Aine from a transfer from Starbase 118; the new roles they had both already taken on, the intelligence directorship for Avander and department leadership for Aine. Nevertheless, Lia was completely convinced that they were the right officers -- the right people -- for her new command team.
