((Yinn’s Quarters, USS OEB))
Yinn and Zarah were in cahoots, plotting the demise of the new Director of Intelligence. Okay, not her demise, but a prank nonetheless, one that wouldn't’ cause any harm and would not only fufill the requirements for JOPA, but also ‘break in’ the newest member of the crew. The question was, what could they do and how could they do it? The former was answered quickly, for Yinn came up with the suggestion to change someone’s replicator preferences. The latter was more complicated, for to change those, they needed to have a level of access that Zarah didn’t have, but also one that would prevent them from getting discovered.
Johnson: It could be easy to mess with one replicator enough to get the access codes for someone. Once we do that, we can find a way to hack in and change Walker’s preferences.
Yinn: Okay, this is all coming together in my head. Wauhk is very loud, I'm sure I've overheard her input codes a dozen times, I just don't pay much attention. But now?
One blue hand covered her mouth, a rather human gesture, though it very well could be a part of Bolian culture two. Zarah grinned at her friend. The two of them worked well together. She’d come up with an idea, so Zarah simply waited.
Yinn: I could just get the monitor across from the replicator to record any time someone puts in their codes. I don't even have to overhear in person! Ohhhh, this is getting horribly unethical, isn't it? How many regulations do these pranks usually violate?
If Zarah tried to count, she’d probably lose her place and thus didn’t even bother. Besides, did it matter in the long run? It wasn’t as if they were going to hurt anybody.
Johnson: As long as it’s harmless, who cares? That’s a fantastic idea! Even better if we can get someone of a higher rank - it’ll be easier to access
Yinn: One more thing. Zherlac is a great food to prank someone with... but it's like tattooing my name on the prank. The only other Bolian on the ship is Tox, and he didn't grow up on Bolarus. Maybe we use... gagh? Or some bad human food?
Zarah tapped her fingers on the arm of the couch while Yinn rubbed at the bridge of her nose.
Yinn: Hang on. What if it isn't something smelly, what if it's something that's technically food, but you can't really eat. You cook a lot of your plants, right?
Johnson: Yes.
She wasn’t a vegetarian or vegan, but she did eat a lot of plants, and in general, they were cooked. Occasionally, they were raw, such as in salads, or just a crunchy carrot, but it wasn’t really necessary to the discussion.
Yinn: There's that one that's basically a lumpy rock? Hang on...
Yinn pulled out a PADD and started tapping while Zarah tried to fathom what sort of food was a lumpy rock. After a minute, Yinn found it.
Yinn: A pot ahto! Just cold and raw. Would a human eat one in that form?
Zarah blinked, then burst out laughing. She had never thought of potatoes as lumpy rocks, but if she thought about it, she could understand why someone who wasn’t from Earth might look at them like that.
Johnson: A raw potato! That’s hilarious!
Yinn: Response
Zarah nodded enthusiastically and leaned forward, her eyes twinkling in anticipation. This was just getting better and better!
Johnson: There’s also a couple of *really* stinky cheeses if we want to go with the smelly food idea - and since there are a bunch of humans on the ship, there are too many to point fingers at.
Yinn: Response
Great, so now they just had to get access to the system and figure out how to change the preferences. One hurdle had been crossed, just a couple more to go.
Johnson: Sounds like we have a plan! Once you get the code, let me know and we’ll work on phase 2!
Yinn: Response
