OOC A short scene to pick up some tags from Amanda from before I left. More coming soon!
(( Captain's Ready Room, Deck 1 Saucer, USS Octavia E. Butler ))
Lia sighed as she looked around the ready room. It still had that new ship smell, which wasn't on its own a terrible thing. But the smell was a proxy, in her mind, for a complete lack of personality. Despite the extended period of shore leave, Lia hadn't yet spent any time on activities she found to be relaxing or restorative. She'd been entirely engaged with refugee resettlement -- again, not a bad thing -- but she needed some downtime now more than ever, and sorting out the aesthetic of her ready room was just the sort of activity that would help. Unfortunately, given her general state of overextension, she also just wanted it to be done.
Thankfully, she didn't have long to dwell, because she'd had her yeoman (and she had her own yeoman! Although they were more properly adjutants, the older word had always tickled Lia) set up a few meetings that she didn't think could wait. Of course, "didn't think could wait" was entirely objective, which was why she was meeting first with Zarah Johnson.
The door chimed a moment later, and when Lia called for Zarah to enter, she stepped in with a huge grin. Lia couldn't help matching it.
Zarah: Commander.
Rouiancet: Hello, Zarah.
Lia and Zarah had last spent an extended period of time together on Earth, with Avander, following the 'Oumuamua crew's trip back in time to Gelf. The three of them had then sought out the Gelf embassy on Earth with some very surprising results. Since then, Lia had been only peripherally aware of Zarah's presence on 'Oumuamua, but she had approved Sasha Johnson's request to bring her daughter aboard the OEB immediately. This was, however, her first time seeing Zarah aboard.
Zarah: (approaching with a PADD) Thank you for seeing me!
Rouiancet: No problem at all. The pleasure is mine.
Indeed, and in part because Zarah's enthusiasm was infectious. She had a certain verve and in her presence Lia couldn't help but find herself recharging, if only a little.
Zarah: I hope this won’t take long, but I appreciate you making the time for me.
Rouiancet: Of course. Would you like to have a seat?
But instead of indicating the standard-issue chair across from the standard-issue desk, Lia herself rose and indicated the ready room's seating area. That, too, was standard-issue, but its presence was not -- Lia had requested it specially when presented with a list of possibilities for her ready room, an echo of what she'd observed had worked so well for Commodore V'Airu.
She settled in the seating area, and indicated that Zarah should do the same.
Zarah: Response
Rouiancet: Now, then. What do you have for me?
She nodded at the PADD that Zarah held close, and was clearly a central aspect of her excitement.
Rouiancet: I see! Tell me more.
Zarah: Response
