Lt. Cmdr. Katsim Peri - "Awkward End"

Peri hadn’t expected Avander to come to her office, but it made sense.  He was the First Officer, after all, and he hadn’t been in the position long, so this was the first time he’d discussed any matters with her in that sense.  As he spoke, however, it was with hesitation and awkwardness, for the dynamic was far different than what they experienced outside.  When they simply spent time together, their conversations were usually easier and flowed a bit better.  Now, it was stilted and uncomfortable.  It didn’t help that he’d brought up something that somehow she’d missed, which disconcerted her greatly and would certainly look into.  

Katsim: Is there anything else you needed to discuss with me?

Promontory: (slightly uncomfortable) Uh. No. No, that’s it. (beat) Keep up the good work!

He, too, was uncomfortable and she wasn’t sure what else to say or do.  While the compliment was appreciated, it still felt stiff, probably due to that very discomfort he displayed. 

Katsim: Thank you.  

Neither was her response particularly enlightening or smooth.  With that, Avander rose to his feet and Peri did the same.  As he turned toward the door, he called out the same words, and at least, even if he was uncomfortable, she could tell that he meant it.  

Promontory: (with effortful sincerity) Keep up the good work!

Katsim: You too.

As the doors closed behind him, Peri realised how strange that response sounded.  Of course he was doing a good job, but her words sounded as awkward as the entire conversation had been.  Pink darting back into her cheeks, Peri sat down heavily and took a minute to gather herself.  Hopefully it would get easier as time went on.  For the moment, she had other things she needed to take care of.  Such as…

Reaching up, Peri tapped her combadge and established a connection.
