(OOC: So sorry this one is late))

((Outside Forzot’s Exotic Beasts, Helix Station))

They were now far enough outside the store not to raise an alarm, and Shyvo stuttered, stumbled, and slipped his way through his question for the lieutenant.

Shyvo: Sorry, s-sorry, sir. I d-didn’t finish. I meant to say: Did you have reason to…erm…to suspect the o-owner of wrongdoing… and is the o-owner breaking any l-local laws?

Halloway: You're doing fine, Shyvo.

Shyvo saw the lieutenant raise an eyebrow and felt a sudden, sharp, cold feeling of dread. Now they had done it. o0 I-I was in s-so much t-trouble 0o

Catona: Well, I don’t know about local laws, but Glubs are hard to tranquilize without Dhusnid spines … and those are certainly illegal in Federation space.

Shyvo: I-I can see why y-you’d object sir.

He said, stuttering more than a shuttle with injector issues.

Halloway: I see, did you say it in a way that might be seen as an accusation of some kind?

Shyvo: Sometime e-even the t-tone of how you say something c-could change the m-meaning. Like with erm…Zaldans. They are infuriated by c-c courtesy, as they viewed it as a form of phoney social b-behaviour designed to cover true feelings, and instead they prefer b-blunt honesty.

He spoke almost like a textbook.

Catona: I certainly didn’t say anything that justified being choked!

Halloway: I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this, sir. :: Beat. :: I'm security, it's kinda my job to ask questions.

The officer straightened up and cleared his throat. He shifted uncomfortably and scratched the back of his head. It was as though he had been caught in an embarrassing situation and was hoping the questions would not dig any deeper.

Catona: Why yes, of course. :: scratches the back of his head and looks away :: I may have asked what he thought gave him the right to purchase and use something so dangerous.

Shyvo knew languages and picked up on the wording Catona had used. When someone said "what gives you the right," it almost led to some form of conflict.

Shyvo: T-that almost sound a-accusatory.

Catona: It was simple curiosity, nothing more. We don’t hold any legal authority as far as I know. But surely a pet store owner must know the harvest of Dhusnid spines is dangerous and problematic.

Shyvo: T-there is no f-Federation authority here, even if we think something is d-dangerous and problematic. We have, erm…different legal and d-d-diplomatic things to c-consider.

Halloway: Response

Shyvo gripped the hem of his uniform, as though attempting a nervous Picard manoeuvre, and held it tight.

Catona: They’ve been used in more than one high-profile assassination attempt in the quadrant in the last few years. :: holding his hands up :: Now I’m not saying our friendly Cheyd had anything to do with that, but it does make one wonder.

Shyvo: Is that s-something y-you suspect, sir?

Halloway/Catona: Response

He listened to what was being said, and a knot tightened in his stomach. He desperately hoped it would not lead to another adventure.

Shyvo: Well then y-you, or we should r-report this, sir.

Halloway/Catona: Response

Shyvo looked frantically between the two officers, his eyes wide.

Shyvo: W-what are you suggesting, sir? We should w-w-wait for Commander N-Nilsen. T-tell him instead!

He even shot a desperate glance down the station corridor, as if he had hoped that Commander Nilsen might miraculously step out of the crowd to bring a sense of sensibleness to the proceedings.
