Lt Cmdr. Avander Promontory: A Feast of Ensigns

Avander had often enjoyed popping into this quieter mess hall back when his quarters were on the same deck. It was rarely used, with most of the senior officers preferring to socialize down in the larger Writers Room, but that was precisely why Avander enjoyed it. Sometimes, it was nice to have a snack in peace and quiet.
Although he no longer frequented the senior officer mess, he thought it an ideal location to host a welcome dinner of sorts for the newest ensigns. The relative calm of the past few weeks at the I’Kiyo ring had allowed Avander to get caught up on a number of administrative items and now that they were on their way to Port Coray, Avander finally had time to host the meal he had been wanting to for months. He remembered fondly when his previous CO had done the same for him and he was excited to “pay it forward.”
Avander was just putting the finishing touches on the floral display that had been a parting gift from the I’Kiyo when the door chimed.
Promontory: Come!
He turned to see which Ensign would be the first to dinner.

After everyone had arrived and been seated, Avander waved his hands to the spread of hors d’oeuvres that was laid out on the main table.
Promontory: Dig in! After you have some food, maybe we could do formal introductions.
He had read all their personnel files, of course, but tonight was about getting to know them in a real way.
