((Main bridge, USS Amber))

They reached their target, a large comet in space. Scans revealed a high mercury content, deepening the mystery. They also discovered a lifeform of unknown origin hiding within the comet, which seemed to be inside the mercury itself.

Forsyth: Very well Then, we'll try that one first.

Alex was balancing her tactical skills while also taking risks, ensuring they received what they wanted and the chance to gain deeper knowledge without any danger. She wanted to make sure that their primary task remained the focus, even as the objective course changed away from the outpost.

Katsim: I recommend a Class III probe.

A good choice of probes, as they were more suited to approaching moving objects like comets or asteroids. This permits a finer scan, giving them deeper insight into their situation.

Katsim: But with a core sampler attachment.

A Sample would be nice as well, although Alex was not sure removing or damaging the comet was a good idea, given the risk to life forms inside. She would have to take that risk and hope everything goes all right in the process.

Forsyth: Very well, make the necessary modifications.

Catona: Response

Alex nodded, feeling satisfied by her crew's progress and returned to the captain's chair, but she did not sit down right away; instead, she just stood beside as she waited for the crew to get ready.

She did reread the supportive message she got from Lahl before her assignment started, which was mostly just to tell her she got the mission in the bag.

Katsim: Ready for the data stream.

The tactical…. No, Captain, close her screen on the armrest, and turn her attention back to Commander Katsim and co. She knew the bardassian was fast, but it still caught her off guard at times.

Forsyth: What about you, Lieutenant Catona?

Alex had yet to form a really good opinion of the young Science Officer, while not being familiar with the console was a bit odd, but understandable, given that the Oberth was practically phased out by the time he joined Starfleet. She did hope that he would quickly get the hang of it, and he did seem quite eager to work, so there was that.

Catona: Response

Katsim: We also need to figure out a way to carefully change its trajectory without destroying it, but so it will not collide with the outpost.

She would prefer not to destroy the comet or the life form inside before learning more about it, but if they were unable to change its course or even halt it altogether, then they might just have to.

oO I would rather not have it come to that…. Oo

Catona: Response

Alex gleefully turned to the viewscreen, feeling excited that she nearly bounced on the spot into an action like stants

Forsyth: Then, let’s hit it!

oO Maybe tone down the enthusiasm, Alex… Oo

Katsim/Catona: Response

The probe darted away from the Amber lower pod, heading towards the comet like a blinking star. It did not take long for the data to start coming in from the probe, and Alex watched the science team get to work analysing it.

Forsyth: Well, what are we getting?

Katsim/Catona: Response

Forsyth: Could we try a tractor beam, just enough to shift it slightly or even stop it completely?

Alex liked to ask for advice and opinions, especially as she was still learning the role of captaincy, and as her father once said; A captain is only greater than the sum of his crew.

Katsim/Catona: Response
