((Cockpit, Runabout Kindred))

Vala was glad to be a part of this team and impressed with what they could come up with together. It sounded like the idea was starting to take shape, but if they were going to take it forward they would need to take reasonable precautions to protect themselves.

Morton: ::Nodding:: That makes sense. But how can we mitigate the risks from the plasma storms?

Iliac: I strongly suggest that we only use passive scans in this region. It’s already volatile enough and we don’t understand all the potential factors when exotic spooky action is involved.

Tasen: oO This is the first time I feel like a holodeck mad scientist... Oo Mitigate the amount of tachyon radiation that's affecting the unstable zone as well.

Morton: Good ideas. Maybe we can use what we’ve learned from the crystal, too.

Vala wished they’d been able to study it more. She had no idea whether it would go on to be studied further; all she knew was that her part in it was over. Crystals could be regrown, and they had already found a way to make it grow - controlling the growth was going to be the real challenge. If they could find a way to attune new crystals - they could open up wormholes. Of course, having discovered that the crystal was in fact a lifeform in its own right also introduced a host of ethical questions. The crystal could still play a part in the solution, but probably not for a long time. It was more of a longer term prospect.

Tasen: ::pipping up softly:: We got back to our universe by basically using that crystal as a key. So to use this again, weak point or not, we'd need a key. Be that a chemical, a type of radiation, or something else. Both to open it again and direct it.

Iliac: I think that’s right. Using a key to open a door is much preferable to kicking the door down. (beat) In fact, DTI would insist on our ‘no kicking down the doorways between dimensions’ policy.

Morton: oO Fair! Oo

Tasen: That's fair...Causing either a fresh-badlands here or opening a permanent portal to an alternate universe would be...bad...to say the least. Let's not break everything while we are being supervised by Lieutenant Brzezinski.

Brzezinski: Fine. OK, what can we do without breaking reality?

Morton: We should probably keep well away from the thinnest areas, and the areas where we are registering spikes.

Tasen: Response

Iliac: I think the probe idea is a good one. Just keep it to passive scanning and we can correlate the data and review it before making any additional, risky moves.

Vala sat up a little straighter in her seat. At long last a solid plan was coming together and they had the beginnings of a solid path to move this project forward.

Morton: How many probes shall we deploy?

Tasen: Response

Iliac: The Alts are (relatively) stable for now. We will investigate ways to return them, but not at the risk of our own reality.

Brzezinski: You heard the lady. Let’s get some calibrations and scanning algorithms figured out!

Morton: I can take care of the calibrations.

Tasen: Response

With Lhandon having left the team, things descended into silence. She couldn’t speak for the others but Vala appreciated the peaceful atmosphere. Vala didn’t much care for maths but everything she did had to be accurate and exact. Getting a calibration off by even the tiniest amount could make a huge difference. There was no way she could adequately concentrate on work if she was being distracted with social niceties.
