((Floor 40, I-Dorf Kiyoria, I-Kiyo Dyson Ring))

They had successfully checked into their luxurious complimentary wedding suite, and the view outside was equally as stunning. It was picturesque but not distracting enough to take his attention away from the immediate appearance of their purple companion.

Tr’ac’i 42: You would do well learning how to be discreet in public. You were gathering too much attention. Strangers at the public works department, aliens no less. (beat) The fact is… there’s a problem with the ring.

Herrick: oO Well, there’s a shocker. Oo

Richards: We were attempting to be discreet.

This person, who’s name was still unknown due to poor manners on Josh’s part, seemed fixated with the schedule. Whereas, and rather logically, his team was fixated at solving whatever problem necessitated their visit. Understandably the team was getting a bit 'done' with the mysteriousness, as Josh watched non-verbal gesture of 'you get what you get'.

Tr’ac’i 42: I assume that you have not once again forgotten our arranged time?

Lahl: No, we have not.

Herrick:  And until then, we’re to do what?

Part of the 28-year-old wanted to go exploring in the city, but the engineer’s fascination with technology was strongly overriding that.

Tr’ac’i 42: That should allow you ample time to prepare. Do you have any questions?

Lahl: Well, for one, I’m curious what the problem with the Dyson Ring, and how can we help?

Tr’ac’i 42: It is not the appointed time for that information to be given.

Herrick: (frowning) It would be more… efficient to know now.

The ensign chimed in to bolster Josh’s prod.

Lahl: Lieutenant Herrick is correct, we can start formulating a plan if you tell us what’s happening.

Tr’ac’i 42 waved her arms as if this was an unnecessary gesture, and Josh noticed Kimonzi’s facial expression matched his own.

Tr’ac’i 42: That is not how we work here.

Richards: Response

Lahl: ::rolling her eyes:: Very well. If you’re going to be cryptic, can I ask if I can keep that robe over there? It seems like it was made specifically for me.

He wasn’t quite sure of the silent exchange the two of them made, but he suspected that if they offered this level of opulence that they wouldn’t mind Lahl walking away with a souvenir once they fixed whatever seemed to be the problem.

Lahl: Just making sure.

Richards: Response

Tr’ac’i 42: Any other questions?

Herrick: Perhaps, just your name. We didn’t properly exchange introductions when we first met.

He offered what hopefully didn’t come across as a forced smile given how trying this person was.

Richards: Response

Tr’ac’i 42: It is unnecessary for the purposes of your visit.

Then, without warning, she blinked out of existence.

Lahl/Richards: Response

((The next morning))

(OOC: Feel free to fill in the events of last night/trip; just moving us along to make sure we’re able to wrap up before SL ends)

They had gotten in a little bit later than he’d expected, but it was a good night of bonding with the pair of officers. Josh had tried to sleep with the robes that had been provided given he’d failed to pack any clothing in his desire to get off the ship and explore the ring. While they were quite smooth, he found the petals woven through to be uncomfortable enough to sleep so he cast them off on the floor and slept in the buff.

As he awoke, he looked around the room, taking it all in again. His head turn abruptly stopped however when his gaze met the top of the dresser and there sat his clothing from yesterday, freshly laundered and folded. He felt his face flush first from embarrassment at the thought of someone being in the room, and then in concern that someone had been in his room — but he didn’t ‘wake up dead’ so he figured he was safe enough and prepared for the day ahead.

Once all three of them were ready, they left ‘on the dot’ and found an automated transport with blacked out windows awaiting them. Their journey was several minutes before Josh felt the familiar thud of landing. But this time, the doors didn’t open and instead a holo filled the cabin. It spoke perfectly, though Josh thought some of the inflections had an artificial feel.

Holo: The information you are to receive is strictly confidential. Unauthorized sharing of this information is subject to imprisonment until death as is governed by the laws of our land.

Josh wasn’t sure exactly how he felt about that, but the holo pressed on regardless.

Holo: ::displaying a view of the solar system:: Chronometric aging of the ring has determined that its age is 12,764.21 years. The exact origins of the ring are unknown, much of our recorded history from that era has been lost to time. Our analysis has shown that the shield dome generator is likely to fail in 154.214 days. When that happens, all the atmosphere will be vented into space and the remaining ring dwellers will perish. We do not easily accept the help of outsiders, but we will permit your assistance given this extreme situation. This transport will take you directly to the main shield generators, and these tablets will provide you with all the technical documentation we have available.

The briefing abruptly ended, and the doors finally opened.

Herrick: Well… that was something.

Lahl/Richards: Response
