to USS Octavia E. Butler – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
(OOC: Erik feel free to make this a short interaction, my completist brain just couldn't stand leaving Toxin passed out on the floor)

(( 06-0330, Deck 6, USS Octavia E Butler ))

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

Jania’s eyes popped open and she groaned. She sat up, nearly slamming her head on the bunk above her.

Nis: Yes? What? What’s going on? :: There was no reply, until she remembered she had to activate her comm badge. :: =/\= What’s going on? =/\=

Medical: =/\= Medical emergency reported three minutes ago in 04-0403 =/\=

It had only been about four and a half hours since she’d left a half-dozen radiation-stricken patients in sickbay, and before that, she’d been awake for nearly twenty-four hours, so she groaned and threw on her uniform, only stopping at the replicator for a cup of coffee before rushing madly down the hallway toward the elevator to Deck 4.

(( 04-0403, Deck 4, USS Octavia E Butler ))

She arrived at the same time as Dr. Nhoush, a Denobulan who had given Jania side-eye for her methods. They burst into the room, but both froze at the sight of Lt. Toxin Arlill passed out on the ground, pills scattered around him.

Nhoush: An overdose? :: in a rather judgy tone :: I didn’t realize he was an addict.

Jania glanced at Nhoush, her mouth open.

Nis: These are iodine pills.

She kneeled at Toxin’s side. His normal blue skin had grown pale and his eyes seemed sunken. She made a fist and ran her knuckle over his lips. Dry. As she did it, Nhoush got out her tricorder.

Nhoush: He’s been out for about ten minutes.

Though she didn’t mean to, Jania scoffed.

Nis: We don’t know why you trust those things. The computer said he’d only been out for three minutes and it only took us three minutes to get here.

Nhoush: :: Rolling her eyes :: I think a few minutes of error is acceptable to avoid having to touch a patient’s lips just to know he’s dehydrated. =/\= Engineering, we need a site-to-site teleport from here to medical. =/\=

(( Sickbay, Deck 5, USS Octavia E Butler ))

A moment later they were in the sickbay. Nhoush got Toxin on the biobed while Jania thought about the situation. He’d been given the same radiation treatment as the others, but he wasn’t responding. Why?

oO He’s part Bolian. Bolians are from a water planet. Oo These was Nis’s thoughts, mixing with her own. Memories she shared with a biologist.

oO Yeah. Neat. Oo Jania thought, nodding along as she stared at Toxin on the biobed.

oO Water blocks radiation, you dummy. His people needed to evolve less protections against it. Oo

Her eyes grew wide.

Nhoush: Prepping another dose of hyronalin.

Nis: 15 CCs.

Nhoush: Huh?

Jania bit her lip.

Nis: Bolians are extra-sensitive to radiation poisoning. If we don’t give him a high enough dose, he might die.

Nhoush: Yes, but that high of a dose could give him a pulmonary edema.

Nis: Well? Then be ready with an analgesic and a loop diuretic. What else can we do?

Nhoush: Do not like.

But she loaded up an extra 5 CCs, then took a deep breath.

***

Jania was at Toxin’s bedside when his brainwaves indicated he was awake. She put down her coffee and smiled.

Nis: Good morning, Lieutenant.

Arlill: Response

Nis: You’re okay now, and you’re responding much better to treatment. That’s what’s important. You received too small of a dose of hyronalin. We hold ourselves to blame. But like we said, you’re getting the treatment your unique biological makeup requires, and you’ll be right as rain in a few hours.

Arlill: Response

Nis: Well, we suspect that’s because you’re very dehydrated. You’ll need plenty of fluids over the next few weeks.

Arlill: Response

Nis: Oh, we highly advise you don’t drink alcohol while you’re on the Dyson ring.

Arlill: Response
