Lt.(jg) Dr. Toz: Getting to know the doctor

((Personal Quarters, Deck 4-0107, USS Octavia E Butler)) 

When she was eight, she wanted to be ten. Then she wished she was sixteen. By the time she was able to enter Starfleet, she had passed those ages and wished she was sixteen again. Or just entering the preparatory courses needed. She wished she was just meeting Justin and delighting in being young, light as a feather. Able to climb the front face of Cap Santa. Up to the parking area. Lover’s Leap. Was it still called that? she wondered. 

Her dreams had come true. She was in Star Fleet, she was a doctor stationed on a starship… namely the USS Octavia E Butler. She was almost a CMO; she was able to juggle schedules, shifts, doctors, nurses. She laughed lightly. Mustn’t forget those Aids and Technicians . 

Dr. Toz leaned back in her chair, let the latest padd fall to her lap and agreed with herself that life was good. She’d been re-reading the Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov. (Now on padds available at your local replicator.)

What happened to Justin? 

Turning to her desk, she took one of her deep breaths and asked the computer the burning question.

Toz: Computer, Locate Justin Checksum. 

Computer: Working

Why she was wanting to locate Justin she didn’t really know. Curious, she supposed. She was always curious. She loved sneaking into empty houses just to snoop around. Maybe he… no, she wouldn’t think of death. She would wait for the computer to do its thing.

Computer: Justin Checksum is an engineer located on Deep Space 14. 

Toz let her shoulders slump. DS14? She’s just been there!! She should have spent more time touring the station. Then again, she might not have run into him at all. 

Toz: Almost 0800 and time to head to sickbay. 

While collecting items she’d brought ‘home’ to study, Dr. Toz walked to the door which opened silently at her approach.
