((OOC: Taking Thunderbird (email software) out for a spin, hopefully this shows up correctly))

(( Lower Astrometrics Lab, Deck 11, Octavia E Butler))

Was he dead? Probably. The transporters had still been down, even with the multiple double shifts he, along with ops and engineering, had been pulling; they couldn't guarantee the safety of anyone using it.

Tobats was liikely hunting him. He'd been avoiding Tobats like Picard avoided Lwaxana Troi, after his office had been trashed via violently arriving test canisters. Maybe this would finally bring Tobats out of wherever he had been hiding. Of course, Lhandon also considered hiding away himself; he had heard that the Jefferies Tubes were really nice that time of year. For now though, the Astrometrics labs seemed like a good place to hide

Then the OEB was suddenly pulled away, and Lhandon experienced what others in the past, such names as Scotty, Laforge, Torres and the king of Operations, Chief O'Brien to name but four, had experienced - the panic of “the ship is going now, oh no the ship is going now, we should not be going now the ship isn't ready.”

A temporary patch for the transporters was presented and accepted. The shuttles, runabouts, and fighters could be used as a bridge. They wouldn't have anywhere near the speed of the OEB's transporters, nor would they have the same capacity, but if needed, it was an option.

But this was Starfleet ordering it, so what could he do except lodge a formal complaint? He sighed; he didn’t have the energy for that.

As they left Deep Space 14, he received his assignment for this mission, the science lab. He trusted Rouiancet and her judgement, so if she wanted him in science, then that's where Lhandon would go, and maybe she heard about Tobats and figured she’d post Lhandon in the lab for his protection. She also talked about extra cross-department training; he wondered what that meant and made a mental note to follow up...but cross-department training was a good thing, right?

Peri had something sweet here, spread over two floors, and using different versions of the consoles they had in the OC. The science lab had what seemed to be every type of nebula, star, interstellar phenomena, and space curiosity on display. A kid's eyes would go wide with pure excitement if they were presented with this space…about space.

Lhandon afforded himself a moment to acclimatize as his eyes darted around the two floors. He certainly felt a little out of his depth; his science grades at the academy had been given to him, somewhat out of pity.

But maybe he could bring some ops magic to this lab

Promontory: Right. (clapping his hands together) We’ve got our work cut out for us. Hardly anything is known about the Omicron Victor IV system and the last reports from the Unity Dow haven’t added much. Commander (nodding at Peri), what do we know?

Or maybe he couldn’t. if only there was an outpost, or some kind of buoy or beacon there or something.

Nilsen: Like is there anything in the databases about this system?

Katsim/Yinn/Nilsen: Response

Promontory: It’ll have to be enough to go with for now, Ensign Yinn, is there anything from cross-comparative analyses that could give us an insight? (beat) Mr. Nilsen, if you’d assist.

He nodded and looked to Yinn for the next step.

Nilsen: of course sir.

Katsim/Yinn: Response

It had felt good to see Katsim and Yinn again as well. He had worked with both during the previous mission and later during the last shore leave. He had also been glad to share this mission with Avander. He had come to look up to his new first officer. Lhandon had been there for Avander's final JOPA meeting, so they already had a mutual connection. But even after he had left the organization, Lhandon still sought Avander's guidance and, at times, his humor.

Promontory: Well, whoever came up with the name lacked imagination. “Omicron Victor IV?” It sounds generic and unremarkable.

He seemed to look at the name on the display

Promontory: Maybe we could call it Oh-Vee-I-Vee (OV-IV).

Nilsen:::Looking up from the display:: At least that’s a more interesting name then Gault. Like, our star is called Gault, our system is the Gault system, the planet is called Gault, there’s even a city called Gault, on Gault. I get there’s keeping it simple, but ::slight laugh:: yeah. We ain’t a smart lot.

Katsim/Yinn: Response

Nilsen: Yinn, Peri, you know those telescopes the federation has, the long long long range one, the ones that look into like deep space and all those other erm…

He wondered what words to use and tapped his leg a couple of times as if he was willing his brain to work

Nilsen:…radio, heatwave things. can we see if any of them have got data on…:he considered his next words:: Oh-Vee-I-Vee?

Promontory/Katsim/Yinn: Response

It seemed that Lhandon enjoyed a similar level of mischief as his new XO; the smirk had said it all. This relationship was certainly going to be different from the one he had with Etan.

Nilsen: Tell ya what Yinn, while you do that, I'm going to maybe bark up the wrong tree and see if any other ship has even gone near Oh-Vee-I-Vee and if there sensors had picked anything up.

Promontory/Katsim/Yinn: Response

He flicked through all of the scan logs of the various ships that had come here and found an image take from long range. He brought it up to on the display and focused on it as he spoke.

Nilsen: Yeah, even at the longest range, there still might be something ::beat:: erm what do you make of those clouds on the edge of the system?

He had seen that the system had a thin layer of cloud on its edge, similar to how the Sol system has the Oort on its outer edge, a thin layer of dust and rocks brought in by the weakest of gravity on the edge of the solar system, a natural border between the space of our solar system and interstellar space. So the question had stood, was this benign and had Lhandon merely observed a natural phenomenon or could this have been a clue to this mystery?
