The thought of taking the transporters down right on the cusp of a mission hadn't filled Lhandon with much joy, but if Paradi had said that it was the right thing to do, then Lhandon would have backed him all the way, and shielded him from the wrath of any upper decker.

Nilsen: =/\= Julian, if you feel that we need to take all the transporters down, you have my blessing, I’ll deal with the fallout =/\=

There was a pause, a question posed, and a guarantee of a safety net from Nilsen, yet a tension still lingered between them, a silence for just a moment. The call was Paradi's; this was his area. Rank be damned, if Paradi asked for it, then Paradi would get it.

Paradi: =/\= In my judgement, sirs. We ought to suspend all use of the transporter pads with immediate effect until we have a solid solution to what is going on... =/\=

The sweat and tension could heard over the coms line.

Herrick: =/\= Rather than worry about the fallout, I think we’d rather have a bit of inconvenience than someone’s atoms scattered somewhere. Safety first, that’s why we have backups upon backups — they just seem to be failing us at the moment. =/\=

And just as he had been mentally planning every rebuttal, Herrick had come along, like his knight in shining gold armour. Herrick, the highest rank out of the three of them, had given the order to pull the trigger.

Herrick: =/\= Nilsen, let’s fully stop use of the transporters and advise any one that’s off ship that they’ll need to return via the port or shuttles. We can do a few more tests and then bring our findings to the command team if we can’t nail it down. =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= Aye. =/\=

Lhandon starts moving items around on his holographic display, and as he sent out the advisories, a final order needed his voice code.

Nilsen: =/\= Authorization code, Nilsen 4294-Gamma =/\=

A beep from the computer was all that the ship gave to say such an important was down. No large fan fair, just a whimper, a tiny beep that gave no faith to the user whatsoever. The verbal confirmation instead came from Nilsen

Nilsen: =/\= Transporters are down. =/\=

Paradi: =/\= I'd rather stay hidden in the tubes if it's all the same to you, Lieutenant... =/\=

Herrick: =/\= I’d rather you not become a tube dweller, ::hold up his hands:: no pressure, but I’d be more worried if they had any reaction other than genuine concern. =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= Yeah, and I probably wasn’t helping with the nerves there but I can be the face of this operation if anyone gets grumpy. We got anything we can use for a test that we don’t mind using and maybe losing? =/\=

Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=

Herrick: =/\= There are some diagnostic biomatter cylinders on… Deck 10 I think in the aft cargo bay. I’d like to route them through this junction to the ventral emitter and then perhaps to the OC where we can see the shape of it post-transport. What do you think?=/\=

His holographic map of the ship gained a new overlay, and he found all the aforementioned biomatter cylinders in the cargo bay.

Nilsen: =/\= I see them, Upper Aft Cargo Bays. They look like they’ll be perfect for this. I’m guessing you two are not going to be stand…crouching there. You know, just in case =/\=

Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=

Herrick: =/\= ::nervous chuckle:: Quite right, I suppose the two of us should get a bit of distance from the junction. No need for another scolding… I mean visit to Sickbay. We’ll leave the tricorder attached in case we get lucky on the logs. =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= I’ve got the OC recording everything from the tricorder so we can review it later. Let me know when you’re ready for me to pull the trigger =/\=

Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=

Josh and Julien had made their way out of the Jefferies tube, and Lhandon had continued to monitor the systems, even though nothing had changed since then.

He saw the level 10 forcefield appear on his display and soon after Josh was back on the coms line.

Herrick: =/\= Alright Nilsen, energize the site to site. =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= Energizing site to site transport now. I’m sending it to our testing rooms =/\=

His fingers had flown over the holographic displays. Despite the computer's apparent disdain for him, the displays were much friendlier. His preferences followed him around, and the readouts, controls, and functions reacted in a way that felt natural to him. As he pressed against the projected interface, the holograms reacted with a physically simulated sense of pressure, providing him with tactile feedback that made the interaction feel more natural.

Paradi/Herrick: =/\= Response =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= Okay right, It’s in the buffer, making it’s away around and like Houdini it’s right…ern…standby =/\=

Paradi/Herrick: =/\= Response =/\=

Lhandon had heard the beam, followed by an almighty crash, as it sounded as though an entire room had been turned upside down. Work in the OC had come to a halt.

o0 Ah…sho…0o

Upon hearing the loud, unexpected crash, he instinctively turned his head towards the direction from which the crash came from. His heart pounded in his chest then, his gaze shifted back to his own display. The biomatter cylinders had indeed reached the Operational Centre. However, their arrival was not smoothly executed transition he had anticipated.

Nilsen: =/\=Erm…folks…=/\=

He walked from his station to where the computer had indicated the transporters sent the cylinders. He went down the small lift, not dissimilar to that found in the engineering section of a Galaxy-class ship, and looked inside Tobat's office.

Nilsen: =/\=It’s here…but…we might need to pull double shift to clean Tobat’s office.=/\=

Paradi/Herrick: =/\= Response =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= Yeah, they’re intact…it’s just the rest of his office. They didn’t arrive smoothly. =/\=

Paradi/Herrick: =/\= Response =/\=

Upon entering the office, Lhandon took a moment to survey the scene that lay before him. The once orderly room had been thrown into chaos. Every shelf, panel, and table seemed to have been hit with a significant force, a force that was clearly applied from the sudden and unexpected arrival of the cylinders. Books, once neatly lined up on the shelves, now lay strewn about the floor. Trinkets, each with their own special place on the desk or shelves, had been thrown around the room as if caught in a storm. Tobat's chair, usually sitting in its designated spot behind the desk, had been tossed aside like a discarded toy.

Lhandon's stomach churned with apprehension.

o0 Well I’m dead! 0o
