((Gymnasium, Deck 5, USS Octavia E. Butler ))
Ensign Morro Caras and Lt JG Lhandon Nilsen quickly got to know each other and shared a common interest in fitness. This brought Lhandon joy, as he found the gym to be a good place for socializing, often reaping the benefits of such a lifestyle. What also brought Lhandon joy was that Morro didn't reject the idea of rugby, which was enough for him to already mentally place the ensign on the team. He noted that Morro was flexible, guessed that he was likely fast, someone with good agility and speed, to break through the defense and finish plays.
Caras: I see! Well hope everything is alright. But you look like you’ve got your gym buddy here, so I figure even if you’re pushing to exhaustion you’ll be alright. (beat) Nilse….err Lhando here was telling me about the Rug-Bee team. Do you all play or are you into other physical endeavors?
At the same time, Lhandon also learned that Toxin had been going to the gym and had found his own gym buddy.
Arlill: Oh we just met, Henri (beat) Henri is umm… (beat)
It didn't matter that he was new, Lhandon had had the biggest smile on his face. Toxin had finally been seen outside of the OC, socializing with someone other than Lhandon. Of course, Lhandon loved Toxin, there was no doubt about that, but he could see that things were becoming unhealthy for Tox
Henri: I’m new here, assigned to waste reclamation and processing. It’s a crappy job but someone’s gotta do it. (beat) How’s your workouts coming along?
And Henry and Toxin seemed to be in sync.
The pun wasn’t lost on Lhandon.
Caras: I’m here working on my stretching. Always need to remain limber, who knows if i’ll have to do the splits in a Jefferies tube to do a repair. Do either of you dance?
Remembering Morro's enjoyment of dance, it suddenly clicked. Morro would make a great winger. He's fast, balanced, and likely possesses a great deal of spatial awareness. Plus, he's probably quite intelligent, which could translate into clever plays on the field.
Arlill: Sorry, no, I’ve got two left feet. oO and a spare brain apparently Oo
Henri: Oh I do love dance, never got into it though, maybe you could show me sometime.
Arlill: Of course when you’d have time Henry, (beat) You were mentioning your busy schedule, remember?
Henri: Oh nonsense, there’s always time for learning.
Of course, Arlill was there, playing his usual big brother role, ensuring everyone was being responsible. However, it didn't feel harsh at that moment. It wasn't the unexpected jolt that Lhandon had felt during the awards; it felt kinder, as if the two had shared an understanding.
Nilsen: Tell ya what Morro, I do dance, you do rugby, let’s try each others. It’ll be good to get to know ya too Henry.
It was a genuine offer; this was some kind of exercise, some sort of fitness activity, and as such, Lhandon had signed up instantly. He had known how other disciplines could contribute to rugby and how they could provide skills that one could use on the field. A weightlifter could make a great prop, while someone smaller, more agile, and good at communication might just have made a good scrum-half.
Caras: Response
Arlill: Well that sounds nice, maybe you two can connect some time, later. ::looking at Henri::
Nilsen: Look at this, we’re friends already ::smiles:: and yeah Morro, I’m down if y’all down, just tell me when mate.
His smile was genuine, devoid of malice or sarcasm, perhaps hinting at the sudden joy he had experienced upon finding people to both A) play rugby with and B) be friends with.
Caras: Response
Arlill: Yeah, I guess that might work, right Henri? With your schedule?
Henri: Yeah… probably.
Nilsen: And if you’re down for trying Rugby too Herny, we’re on the rec-deck every thursday at 20:00hrs ::beat:: and you too Tox, you’re always welcome too bro.
o0 please join, please join….pleeaaaaaaasssssseeeeee! 0o
Caras: Response
Arlill: Well that sounds good, you two enjoy the rest of your work out, I think Henri has a shift to get to and I’m beat, heading to bed.
Lhandon held out his hand again
Nilsen: Hey great to meet ya mate.
Caras: Response
Henri: It was a pleasure to meet you two as well.
Lhandon and Morro soon resumed their respective workouts and Lhandon's face showed nothing but pure joy and his picked up the bar to resume.
Nilsen: So that’s Tox, it was good to see him out of the OC.
Caras: Response
Nilsen: By the way, if Y’all need anything from the OC, you just pop down, that goes for everyone, We ain’t in a broom closet anymore.
Caras: Response
[End scene for Nilsen]
