Having made his way off the Gator Deck, after a not so welcoming welcome home from Michele; Jack found himself outside the First officers office on Deck 3. Ironically the new XO of the OEB was Avander Promontory, a friend and someone Jack respected. The new XO had not only been promoted to Lieutenant Commander during Jack’s absence but had also managed to get moved up to first officer of the ship. The thought pleased Jack. He knew Avander and knew he would make a good first officer.
The computer had directed Jack to the XO’s office at his request. The next stop on his docket for the morning. Although he had just gotten back and the doctor told him to take some time, Jack was not one to sit around. He needed to be doing something and he wanted to get back on the duty roster. Michele Winters was currently listed as the ships ‘Acting Chief Tactical Officer’ which he knew had been a recommendation of his before he left but she was not the chief, so he had not been fully replaced yet. Although thinking about her swing at him just a bit before made him wonder if there was a reason she was not the full chief yet.
Reaching out Jack tapped the door chime and waited until the doors hissed open and then he entered finding both Lieutenant Commander Promontory and Lieutenant Commander Sherlock in the office. Feeling as if he’d interrupted a meeting Jack paused and held up a hand.
Kessler: I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were in a meeting.
Promontory/Sherlock: Response
Lowering his hand and giving a slight smile Jack steps the rest of the way into the room allowing the doors to slide closed behind him.
Kessler: Look at you two. I take a vacation and come back and you two are Commanders now and First and Second officers of this new ship. Congratulations to both of you.
The sentiment is truly heartfelt from Jack although he had hoped to find himself in one of those positions by now. The unfortunate reality of getting captured by the Zet and held for so many months meant he was not here to continue his path up the chain of command.
It also meant he’d learned a little more about himself and his wants, his desires and command was still up there on his list. It just was not the number one priority anymore. Things seemed different now and priorities were different.
Promontory/Sherlock: Response
Kessler: Well, certainly not like any prison I even envisioned.
Promontory/Sherlock: Response
Jack chuckled a bit at the thought.
Kessler: Well, actually….I know I have not been back long but I need something to do.
Promontory/Sherlock: Response
Jack paused for a moment before responding. He had not really thought about it but it was a fair question considering this was a new ship and technically not the one he was assigned to when he was captured.
Kessler: I guess I had assumed I would be returning to Tactical when I came back but honestly, if you need me somewhere else then I’m yours.
