OOC: This is still an open scene for anyone who wishes to join!

IC:

((Transporter Room 3, Deck 7, USS Octavia E. Butler))

Fer’at had elected to head to New Bajor because he was interested in seeing how the colony was fairing and what advancements had been made since the last time they had visited.  In addition, they had started growing tea there, and one in particular appealed to him.  The drink made from these leaves had a rich, earthy tone coupled with an almost hint of something that was most definitely not bitter, but not quite sweet, either.  There were hints of floral aroma, but its robustness contrasted sharply with its scent.  Overall, it was a unique sensory experience when indulging in a cup.  Since he had run out of leaves, this afforded him the opportunity to procure more.

The other side of the equation was Yinn.  The exuberant young Bolian had roped a number of officers in her experiment, one that had been sanctioned by the Chief Science Officer herself, so he currently found little in the way of argument against it. He also had to admit, it was a fascinating concept, and he, too, was curious to see what came of it.  For the moment, he was simply another on the journey to Bajor, accompanied by Yinn’s so-called case study, a Klingon by the name of Loq.  Yinn, for her part, had started a conversation, but Fer’at found himself observing more than participating.

Yinn: There was so much Bajoran food I didn't get to try on Old Bajor, and I know I can just replicate them, but it's not the same!

Nilsen: Yes! That’s what I’ve been trying to tell everyone. The replicators can only go so far, but a person making the food, with their experience, their knowledge, all that stuff you can’t quantify. That’s where the real joy comes from

Fer’at tried to understand where Nilsen was coming from, but he was not quite the connoisseur that the other officers seemed to be.  In the case of hesperat, he didn’t care for it, because it was too spicy.  In the case of Klingon food, he was a vegetarian, and much of what they served contained meat.  He preferred more mild flavours, and food that didn’t move.

Loq: I would prefer to stay on the ship.

Yinn: And I'd prefer to work from a beach somewhere instead of the science lab, but we don't always get what we want. You're coming with me, doctor's orders.

He caught the laugh that escaped the Ops officer, and Fer’at cast a glance at the Klingon and the Bolian.  Their hands clasped together, the two walked in a manner that suggested unity, a counterpoint to the way they argued with each other.  Perhaps it was a Klingon thing.  Or a Bolian thing.  Or bother.

Loq: I will respect Dr. Toz's orders.

Fer'at: That is a wise choice.

The Vulcan commented dryly as the Klingon stepped onto the transporter pad, his companions close behind him.  It was never wise to go against a doctor, and Fer’at had a feeling it was particularly unwise to go against Doctor Toz’s orders.  Before more could be said, the world shattered into a million pieces of light, and when it was put back together, they were no longer on the Octavia E. Butler.

((The town centre of New Faren, New Bajor))

New Faren had grown since he last visited, even though little more than a year had passed.  A festival was in full swing, the sizzling smell of a variety of foods hitting their noses immediately upon their arrival.  The colourful banners alight upon poles and archways as well other decorative elements upon the stalls themselves assaulted the eye with their garish colours, and people walked hither and yonder, many munching upon many of the edible items for sale, while others stopped to peruse the numerous wares for sale.  Many of the visitors clad themselves in colours just as garish as the streamers and banners flapping in the wind, and children ran amok, acting in the most unVulcan manner possible.  He, of course, could not prescribe the same sort of discipline, for they were far from Vulcan and had a much different culture.

Nilsen: I’ve been looking forward to this. Can you just smell that? I’m so glad we made it to the festival

Fer’at: The smells are…interesting.

Some were even amenable, though the meat did not appeal to him whatsoever.  Fer’at’s dark eyes slid across the scene set out before them, mainly in search of a vendor selling the tea he desired.  Thus far, he did not spy one.

Yinn/Loq: Response

Nilsen: You’re going to love this Fer’at. :beat:

The pause that followed caught Fer’at’s attention, but it wasn’t him Nilsen looked at.  Instead, his focus had shifted to the couple with them.

Nilsen: You folks alright?

Fer’at: Is there a concern?

Nilsen evidently thought so, and he must have seen something that Fer’at had missed, for his own voice hinted that something wasn’t quite right.

Loq/Nilsen/Yinn: Response

Fer’at: It is more likely a reaction to the transporter.  Although most will travel without incident, it is not out of the realm of possibility that such a reaction is related, even if there have been no prior incidents.

Outwardly, Fer’at could see no signs of injury or even sickness. They looked hale and whole, simply dazed or somehow set off kilter.  In his mind, Fer’at reaffirmed his assessment, that it was likely related to the transportation which had whisked them away from the ship and thrust them down on to New Bajor.

Loq/Nilsen/Yinn: Response

Fer’at: If it would be beneficial, I am certain we can find some place to sit and rest for a moment until you are feeling more…normal.

Though if after a few minutes they still felt off, he would suggest returning immediately to the Octavia E. Butler and having both seen by Doctor Toz.  Loq, especially, could still suffer the consequences of the leaves, for delayed reactions to many substances were known to occur.

Loq/Nilsen/Yinn: Response
