(( ooc: Long one, I apologize, but wrapping it up. ))
(( Sickbay, Deck 5, USS Octavia E. Butler ))
Nis: To a doctor, "weird" is a code for "potentially medically relevant."
Arlill: Nevermind I’m sure it was my imagination recovering from the hallucinations
Nis: Perhaps, but even if it was a hallucination, it'll help us determine treatment strategies. ::Pause to glance at Guthrah :: Ensign Guthrah experienced hallucinations as well, and his brain patterns are still somewhat abnormal. Knowing about your experience will help us treat him.
Henri: oO Don’t give them too much, they might start looking into other hallucinations, like me. Oo
Henri appeared standing behind the ensign doctor kind of looking her up and down.
Arlill: It’s not the (beat) I’ll be fine doctor.
Nis: Most of these are superficial, but a few are deep and this one here has struck an artery. ::As she spoke, she used the back of her palm to put pressure on the one that was still weeping blood. :: The biobed will sterilize the wounds automatically. We'll use a vascular regenerator on the deep wounds before addressing the dermal wounds. We've heard Andorians sometimes like to keep scars. Should we leave any of these?
Sh'shelor: No. not these. Keep the old, but remove the new.
Caras: I was pretty worried about Sh’shelor when I ripped her out of that pile of nodes. She wasn’t looking too good after that, but then she functioned just fine. Honestly the radiation was probably the worst part, because it was a kind of dread
Nilsen: We all were worried, that…no one should have to go through that.
Miash: What’s next for you folks.
Miash’s attempt to try and lighten the mood.
Miash: Of course I mean, we’re almost on shore leave.
Arlill: What’s next? (beat) You’re all ordered to rest and relaxation, I’ll see to that!
Sh’shelor: Then you must listen to your own advice.
Caras: It has been a busy mission for everyone. Sh’shelor is right.
Nilsen: Yeah Tox, What Sh’shelor said. ::Painful laugh:: otherwise she’d throw you back in the bed too.
Arlill: Hey, I’ve got a few bumps and bruises, but you folks look awful ::winking to his team::
Miash: None of you look too good my dear ::guiding Arlill to a biobed::
Nis: We're sure you'll be back nearly blowing each other up in no time at all.
Sh’shelor: First though, treatment. Then rest. Drinks perhaps. Food. And more rest.
Nilsen: Food. I like food. I’ve got some banana bread going in my quarters. Later I’ll get Eli to pick it up for us.
Caras: Don’t go easy on him, he caught me and that’s what took out his ankle. Or go easy on him? How is it supposed to go for medical? They say “do no harm” but does pain constitute harm? I just want him to be well as quickly as possible.
Nilsen: Ha! You can’t talk like that to Lieutenant Nilsen.
Miash: I think he just did deary. ::looking in Nilsen’s direction while treating Arlill::
Miash was concerned. While the Lieutenant didn't seem to have experienced the worst of it compared to his teammates, the real damage was invisible. Unlike the young ensign doctor, Miash relied on both her tricorder and her eyes, appreciating that technology was there to help, not hinder. Even without specifically scanning for radiation levels, her tricorder was flashing an ambient air radiation warning just from being in the Lieutenant's proximity. She’d already administered the Hyronalin to all of them minutes before, but Toxin’s scans showed no evidence of the medication in his system. She silently puzzled on.
Nis: We're glad to see you care about each other this much, though.
Caras: It’s just that we’ve got Rugby coming up, and then Nilsen has to do some dance with me. I think I can find a routine that really suits him. I want something that really fits his energy. He’ll need to be at the top of his game. For both.
Miash watched Nilsen and Moro fist bump and couldn’t help notice that Nilsen was wincing as he did so, an obvious indication of pain.
Miash: You should sit back Lieutenant Nilsen, take it easy.
Arlill: You better listen Nilsen, I’ve seen what Ferengi do to people who don’t listen to their deals ::winking at Miash::
Miash felt a twinge of discomfort. For decades, she had strived to distance herself from Ferengi culture, yet her appearance alone seemed to constantly bring it back into focus.
Sh’shelor: Response
Nis: We don't know why you're all so evasive about your wounds. Sh'shelor we get--scars are a map of the places we've been. But if you've got some internal pain, nobody can even see it. What's the point of suffering in silence? Anyway, you don't want to disappoint your dancing partner, do you?
Nilsen: Alright, alright. I buggered it up when I was a SAR's pilot. You all saw the crash when we had that shared hallucination, and then in a rugby game the year after… and I think I twisted it on Cheyd'lang when the Antani helped with the jailbreak. But aside from that, it's all good. This is just normal for me.
Nis: It doesn't have to be normal, you know.
Arlill: I wouldn’t bother doctor, when he’s not being evasive he’s being stubborn.
Miash: That’s not a very friendly thing to say dear.
Toxin gave the nurse a glare which he hoped emphasized her need to shut it down and keep out of this. He didn’t mean to be angry at the nurse, but Nilsen’s stubborn nature was beginning to brew up the angst he’s been feeling towards Nilsen.
Henri could tell that Toxin was acting differently and he’d known Toxin long enough to know when it was Nilsen pushing his buttons.
Henri: oO Does he really think the tough guy act’s gonna help him? Oo
Sh’shelor: Response
Miash: How did you hurt it this time dear ::to nilsen::
Nilsen: It got caught in the rungs of the ladder as I feel down the turboshaft. Not my finest moment.
Nis: We see the issue. You have an avulsion fracture. Who knows how long you've had it. Basically a small piece of your bone has chipped off from the main bone; it's absorbed into the tendon. This is a simple fix. Nurse Miash, can you grab me an osteogenic stimulator?
Miash: Right away ens…doctor.
She handed the doctor the stimulator and Jania healed Lhandon's ankle in a matter of moments.
Nis: All good and ready to dance. The radiation poisoning is going to take longer to heal, though. But the biobeds will take care of it. All y'all need to do is relax. We certainly don't mind if you continue to chat among yourselves--hash out what happened, if you need to. Just do it from your biobeds.
Arlill: Not sure the Lieutenant, Junior-Grade, knows how to relax.
Nis: Fine, but if you get up, you risk suffering continued radiation damage. We have about six hundred pictures of untreated radiation damage on our PADD, and we will force you to look at them all if you don't stay in your beds. Now, our shift technically ended about five hours ago, so we're going to bed. :: Smiles at them all :: Why do we have the feeling this isn't the last time we'll run into y'all like this?
Putting her arm around Nurse Miash, Jania walked out of the sickbay. She let the door close behind her, but immediately opened it again.
Nis: Seriously. Rest.
As the door closed again Miash turned to the doctor.
Miash: You might want to see this ::showing her the PADD with Lt. Arlill’s rad levels::
They both looked at the results silently and then Miash made eye contact with the ensign. No words were needed, they both knew this wasn’t going to be easy.
[End Scene for Miash]
(( 04-0403, Deck 4, USS Octavia E Butler ))
Toxin had returned to his quarters about 30 minutes prior, showered, changed, and grabbed a snack from the replicator. He was about to sit down when a sudden wave of nausea over came him, he reached for the medication nurse Miash had prescribed, he thinks she referred to it as basic iodine and threw back a few pills. It didn’t go away, he reached for his comms badge but his vision faded, he couldn’t be sure a channel had been opened.
Henri felt the pain and as Toxin passed out he felt around in the Lieutenants nerve bundles, he’d been practicing and knew that if he could just.
Henri: Toxin to medical, medical emergency.
Did Henri just imagine that, or did it work? He waited with bated breath, of course that would be if he required breath.
Medical: Medical to Toxin, team is on their way.
Henri knew that their survive, his survive, his only existence was contingent on Toxin’s life.
