(( Chief Engineer's Office, Deck 11, USS Octavia E Butler ))

The focus of the conversation had started to drift away from Valk, Josh somewhat satisfied by the man's responses along with his previously forwarded CV. The Chief Engineer had learned during his time in Starfleet that the people you surrounded yourself with were just as telling as the individual himself, so he asked a follow up about the Vulcan's lineage.

Herrick: You said your dad was in Starfleet?

Valk: Yes, a Captain Robert Forsyth.

Josh wasn't familiar with him, then again unless it was one of the greats, his knowledge of COs was limited to \the GFETF.

ForsythValk is my long lost brother, sir.

Rouiancet: (raising an eyebrow) Well, not so lost anymore. (beat) I can understand your desire to stay together after a lengthy separation.

Josh nodded; there was an errant thought at the back of his mind around the problems around having family aboard. While Starfleet had a liberal stance; there was the risk that offending one sibling could affect his professional working with the other.

Forsyth: It was in my transfer request, It said my brother would be joining me as well.

He saw the commanding officer look toward him and nod.

Rouiancet: I remember it now, though I didn't mark it then.

Forsyth: I forgot you were not on the Butler when I arrived, Cap’n.

Valk: It was a simple mistake, sister.

Rouiancet: (dry) I missed more than a few events, it seems.

Josh and the captain exchanged a knowing look, and then he piped up.

Herrick: Well, it seems like we have the chance to get it all sorted now at least!

He tapped several submenus on the padd, and a few holo presses on the floating display to the right of him.

Herrick: So we'll get you all sorted and paperwork filed. There will be a preliminary screening as well with Starfleet Security, Humanoid Resources, and a basic aptitude test to understand your proficiency levels. Shouldn't take too long and we'll have you in uniform.

Forsyth/Valk: Response

It was a good question, and he didn't assume that the Vulcan was angling to somehow shortcut rank progression.

Herrick: For a ship-driven posting, we typically start at the beginning of the NCO ranks and let folks work their way up based on time and performance. So we'll start you out at Crewman, Third Class, and see how it goes.

Rouiancet: (a clap; standing) Well! This all seems in order. (to Josh) Keep me apprised, Lieutenant, please. (to Valk and Forsyth) Welcome aboard, both of you, and (to Forsyth) I'd like the opportunity to get to know you better, Lieutenant Forsyth. I'll reach out.

The last bit of the captain's statement seemed a bit ominous, and if it wasn't for her friendly demeanor he may have suspected more behind the words but Lia seemed genuinely pleased that they'd be taking on another capable individual prior to heading back to the GQ.

Herrick: (standing as the Captain did) Aye sir, will do!

Forsyth/Valk: Responses

As the captain made her way out the door, Josh turned his attention back to the remaining pair.

Herrick: So, shall we start with the tour?

Forsyth/Valk: Responses (optional)

[End scene for Herrick]
