((Octavia E Butler))

He had awoken, stretched and made use of the gritty tray where he did his business. After that he had padded over to the thing that dispensed biccits when he placed a paw onto a little paddle thing.
Snack eaten, he had chased his sister about for a short while, wrestling this way and that with playful yowls and chirps each time he caught her. After some time of this, his sister had gone and gotten comfy in her basket and he had half-heartedly chased his squeaky mouse toy around.
It wasn't nearly stimulating enough.

His human dad and human sister weren't around and so he padded to the big hole that they went out of in a morning. Sitting proud, he flicked his tail as he looked up at the unmoving wall.

“Maowwww?”

There was an artificial chirp, and the wall split open to reveal a corridor beyond. Picking up his squeaky mouse in his teefs, he trotted out of the doorway and into the great unknown. Trotting along the corridor, the little bell on his collar jingled with each pad of his paws, also giving off a gentle tinkling sound as it rattled against the other silvery object on his collar. If he were understanding of such things, he would know that it was a pets identity tag in the shape of the Starfleet Delta. Engraved upon its rear was the following tiny inscription;

Haggis (Maxwell).
If found, return to 08-0105

Do not feed after midnight.

He padded on, tags jingling. Every now and then he would stop to rub against the legs of any friendly looking people he encountered. It was normally followed by long strokes down his back, or delightful scritches behind his ears. Both were met equally with rather vocal purrring. At one point he followed a gold clothed female into a tiny round room, bonking his head against her leg with an enquiring chirp.
Belly rubs had been the end result, and he had sat up when the doors opened to reveal that the corridor was not the same as the one he had left. Padding back out of the small round room, he found himself looking up at a huge post, much like his scratchy post at home. But this one was bright blue, and gave off a warm glow as it pulsed. Hopping onto the rail that ran around it, he sat watching the pulsing light for a moment as gold shouldered people milled about doing things that were getting in the way of them playing with the squeaky mouse to entertain him.

Hopping down again he rolled back and forth in the middle of the floor with his mouse, occasionally bunny-kicking at it for good measure. Getting no response, he got up and padded back towards the small room, sitting down inside as its doors closed.

Haggis: Maow?

The doors opened, revealing a different place again and he trotted out to find that everybody here was wearing a blueish colour. Realising where he was, he let out a happy yowl as he scampered towards a human he recognised. Hopping up onto her desk, he immediately flopped onto his side and began to play with his mouse.
He paid no attention to the sound of a stack of PADD's clattering to the floor in the wake of his boisterously playful arrival upon the Doctors desk.
Playing with his mouse, being stroked and scritched his ears pricked up at the most familiar of sounds.

Dad: =/\= Maxwell tae Sickbay. Don't suppose you've seen my cat have ye? =/\=
