OOC: Flush out the detail in the arboretum a bit more here, and eventually fold will it into the wiki – please feel free to let me know if anything counters something already simmed.

((Botanical Arboretum, Lower Level, Deck 9, USS Octavia E. Butler))

Even though the large transparent doors gave away a bit of the arboretum’s design; it was awe-striking once you stepped through the doors. In the centre of the room, was a large weeping willow with its large thick trunk. Eli wasn’t a botanist, but he assumed that it was likely decades out and a transplant; much like all of the crew. It stretched up into the open area of the deck above.

The branches and leaves that cascaded down were well kept; even the tallest crew members were able to walk underneath without getting thwacked in the face. Unlike most Federation arboretums which primarily used standard floor plating, the designers here had chosen to put grass throughout with walking paths instead. As the engineer looked around, he saw he wasn’t the only one with an idea of a picnic.

He and Lhandon had taken a cursory tour around when one of the crew approached Lhandon.

Lorient: Lhando those plants you ordered have... ::pausing, looking between both men:: Oh sorry I didn't realise you had company. They've been delayed erm….

Nilsen: It's alright Jenni, this is Eli, I'm just showin' this handsome fella around.

Eli’s eyes almost fell out of his eye sockets, and he felt a fiery flush come up on his face. His idea of being in public was less about broadcasting their relationship, but to take another small step in its progression. He was about to let go of Lhandon’s hand, but the man squeezed it as if to reassure him.

Kovacs: Err.. hello. ::giving a small and polite wave with his free hand::

Lorient: It's lovely to meet you Eli, I'll leave you both be, have a great evening gentlemen.

Kovacs: oO Thanks the gods. Oo Take care.

Nilsen: It's kinda funny, no one knows to find me here. Everyone seems to think I'm only at the gym or the OC.

Kovacs: Well… that and your quarters — but I guess you do have a bit of a green thumb from back home.

Nilsen: Yeah, like they know I'm a farmer but they don't make the connection, anyway it's good here. What ya think of that spot?

Lhandon pointed towards a small hill, it was the only unclaimed area of grass. Along the edge of the walls were long creeping vines that reached up beneath the skywalk, and a blossoming cherry tree. The view was magical, and the awkwardness from a few moments ago faded away. He noticed in a nearby flowerbed, a photo of a man smiling wearing some sort of crown. He wondered who the man was — a mystery for another day.

Kovacs: (smiling) It looks perfect.

Lhandon detached his hand from Eli’s, and for a moment, Eli missed the warmth that had been there. He shook his head a bit, it was getting a bit ‘high school crush’ for his taste. They set up their picnic area, cloth, basket, wine glasses and all, and Lhandon poured him a glass — the label read as ‘Mavrodafni’ but he wasn’t familiar with that type.

Nilsen: So erm…hi

Kovacs: ::laughing softly:: Hi, yourself. This is… this is really nice. I’m glad we decided to come here. (awkward pause) And, I think the shuttle-watching will make a good second date when I haven’t gotten cabin fever from being there.

Nilsen: Response

Kovacs: Yeah… he’s a bit of a hardass but I think he’s just trying to live up to what Corelli left behind. Even with a new ship, it must be daunting to be put in charge of such a large department. He just needs to learn how to trust the people under him. How about working with Chief Arlill?

Nilsen: Response
