(( Diplomatic Suite, Deck Six, USS Octavia E Butler ))The trio continued to confer with each other despite Shyvo's attempts to interject. So wrapped up in his own thinking, Varik did not notice the yeoman attempting to speak up. Even if he had, he might not have yielded the floor. One did not build confidence with
Shyvo: T-T-They won't erm respond well t-t-to that…T-their whole thing is n-n-not to l-lose face but..erm.
Varik continued, offering only the faintest of acknowledgments to Shyvo as he struggled with the words.
Varik: Yes, yes. That we know, crewman. ::looking back to Percy:: But what can we do with them?
Shyvo: T-T-there might be a way…
The Rekarian finally noticed Shyvo experiencing some mix of an anxiety attack and seizure. Not wanting the poor fellow to pass out right then and there, Varik yielded the floor. That was the extent of the help offered to the Orion, however, as a critical gaze fell upon the yeoman.
Varik: Go on.
Shyvo: T-The Dosi... they demand authority. They want to speak to the Captain. We can't give them the Captain when she's talking to Ehths. But... ::He looked down at his PADD, then quickly back up at Jer-Legrand.:: Sir, you w-were on the St-a-a-albans. A-at one point, y-our ship had a Talaxian diplomat visit…o-or rather he s-sent someone w-w-who he had given the a-authority but waaaas restricted by..by…erm…by being the same p-person in the room.
Jer-Legrand: I’m not following.
Varik shook his head and crossed his arms, sphere now held securely in one hand.
Varik: Neither am I, crewman. Are you suggesting we retrieve a Talaxian diplomat?
Shyvo: N-n-n-no, I'm n-not saying it right. I mean, we can g-g-give someone a-authority.
Varik watched the Orion steady himself, that critical gaze only getting harder as his eyelids narrowed every so slightly.
Shyvo: I'm C-Commander Nilsen's y-yeoman, and I c-can talk f-for him if needed. H-he gave me a-authority to m-m-manage his a-a-a-stuff. I c-can g-give you, one of y-you his authority j-just in that r-room only. T-t-that way, technically, y-you would have the a-a-a-authority that t-they are looking for, and you c-can ask for anyt-t-thing you like. L-like ::pointing to the orb:: that…or e-even if they h-h-ave a trap for us.
It was not the worst idea, but Varik doubted they would easily give up their motives now that they realized they had already let slip part of their plans. Worse, they now had time to confer in private and were probably in that moment getting their story straight.
To further complicate matters, the hallways began to flash with an amber light as the ship came to yellow alert.
Varik: Well that is not good... ::glancing around:: The decision is yours, Lieutenant. I can only assume the captain will be busy with whatever... ::gesturing vaguely to the flashing lights:: ...that is about.
Jer-Legrand/Shyvo: Responses
Casting a quick glance back at the door to the meeting room where their 'guests' were seated, Varik nodded.
Varik: Very well, Lieutenant.
Not long after, Varik received a ping on his PADD. There was a message from the bridge providing them an overview of what was happening and instructions to interrogate the mercenaries further. Shifting his posture slightly, he spoke to Percy and Shyvo.
Varik: It seems that this Toal'Dius is coming for the
Butler one way or another. Do you think our Dosi guests are friends or foes in that matter?
Or something else. Whatever they were, he hoped to discover it quickly. If there was another ship on approach, he would want to be at the helm should the confrontation escalate.
Jer-Legrand/Shyvo: Responses
Varik: It is possible, but there is only one way to find out. Shall we?
Again facing the doors to the meeting room, Varik approached and crossed the threshold.
