((Operations Centre, Deck 6, USS Octavia E. Butler.))
((ooc: Playing catchup so I chose to put my narrative further down.))
O'Reilly: Everything is ready on this PADD, we just need to get in there and get access.
Arlill: Then let's do it.
Lahl: Ok, time to bake some cookies.
Arlill: How long will this take?
Forsyth: Response
Lahl: Come on baby…
Arlill: What's the holdup, Lahl?
Forsyth: Response
Lahl: If it's baking, we're going to be here a while.
Forsyth: Maybe we should use a different metaphor, it's making me want some cookies now.
Arlill: I could use a snack myself. But let's focus on the task at hand.
Forsyth: How long until it's ready, Lahl?
Lahl: I'm going to be honest with all of you here, it's going to take a few hours at this point.
Arlill: Hours? We don't have that kind of time.
O'Reilly: I don’t think we have minutes ::looking up from a console::
Toxin had almost forgotten Thomas was there. He was curious what his marine friend had been doing, but this wasn’t the time yet to break up their current conversation. They had to find a way to speed this all up.
Forsyth: Right, anyway to speed it up?
Lahl: Well, the problem is that we have too many fish trying to get through a river. We need there to be less fish…
Arlill: Can we redirect some of those fish elsewhere?
O'Reilly: Um, maybe?
Forsyth: Huh, normally the computer is fairly fast with tasks like these?
Lahl: Yeah, our computer cores are pretty good. We usually have no problem running all sorts of programs.
Arlill: Something's interfering with our systems. Any ideas what ::beat:: other than the obvious?
Forsyth: You don't think the Continuance is behind our slow system, sir?
Lahl: I'm going to be honest, I think our friend has put too many fish in our river.
Arlill: That seems likely. We need to find a workaround.
O'Reilly: Um, sirs?
Toxin didn’t even notice Thomas’s second attempt to jump into the conversation, he’d been so quiet, it was like he wasn’t even there—Toxin would regret that later.
Lahl: Alright, so…if there's a blockage in a river, what can we do if we can't get fish out of the river?
Arlill: Create a new path for the water to flow?
O'Reilly: ::sighing deeply:: That’s what I was trying to get at sirs. I think… ::cut off again::
Forsyth: Response
Lahl snapped her fingers and Toxin snapped to attention.
Lahl: Precisely! We make another stream.
Arlill: Excellent thinking. How do we implement that?
O'Reilly: ::under his breath:: I honestly give up. ::turning back to his console to assist with finding another stream
Forsyth: Response
Lahl: Ok, that is a good question, how do we create a new stream…we don't have another computer core hiding somewhere do we?
Arlill: Not that I'm aware of. What about using auxiliary systems?
O'Reilly: ::sighing again and then speaking a bit louder:: SIRs! ::beat:: My apologies. Sirs ::lower this time:: we could use the vehicles not currently in use, right? They have much smaller cores, but we should have enough of them for it to work.
Toxin immediately understood what Thomas was getting at, even if he was covertly saying "vehicles" instead of "shuttles"—not that Toxin was sure that would work with the KC.
Arlill: Yes! That could work. We could even set it up from here. ::he began looking around the large room::
Toxin spotted an ops ensign a few feet away and went over to him.
Arlill: ::softly:: Ensign, I need to you to do something, but don’t say a word, and don’t make it obviously what you’re doing. ::beat:: I need you to go to SB-One and bring the auxillary propulsion systems on in every ::beat:: vehicle, we have. Keep the power levels low enough to only power the computer cores. ::beat:: report back when you’re done.
The ensign nodded in affirmation and exited under a brisk walk. Toxin returned to the group.
Lahl/Forsyth: Response
Arlill: Well, the ensign shouldn’t get caught, but we should have a backup plan.
Lahl/Forsyth: Response
Toxin had to agree, this was the best plan they had, and he wasn’t sure where to even begin a backup plan at this point.
Arlill: I don’t know, I just don’t ::shaking his head::
O’Reilly: Then we should make the best of this plan. Anticipate the ensign’s success and prepare what we can from here.
Lahl/Forsyth: Response
Arlill: Agreed. ::to Lahl:: keep the lines running, it should speed up once the other resources are online.
