(( The Writers' Room, Deck 8 Saucer, USS Octavia E. Butler ))

((OOC: Yinn and Loq's other storyline isn't finished, but I'm going to assume it ends with them not being separated just yet. Feels like things are going that way, and honestly, I'm having too much fun writing them this way to toss out a good sci-fi concept after one shore leave. Since they didn't have a surname in either previous life, they're combining their two names. So, still Ensign Yinn. But they'll be working as both as science officer or diplomatic corps, so feel free to bring them into a sim in either capacity, and which body you get will just have to be surprise!)

There was still a lot of adjustment to having two bodies, but Loq — which is how they started to think of themselves, of all the possible options — was starting to appreciate being at two places at once. They were in the crowded Writers' Room, slender blue fingers curled around a glass of blood wine with a little kayrot oil mixed in — a combination that seemed like a good idea but ended up spoiling the flavor of both.

They took in the news that Commander Iljor was taking command of the 'Oumumua. They didn't know Iljor terribly well, but were glad that Yinn's brief time on board wasn't the end of the ship's run.

But as they sat here, in a blue dress uniform, surrounded by other officers, they were also in the water. They had breezed through physical therapy, as they got a handle on controlling two bodies fairly quickly. But getting a Klingon body to swim was a challenge to say the least. None of the muscle memory encoded in Yinn's long slender limbs since infancy was any help. Qurgh'Loq's body was more powerful, but heavier. Those two things should balance out, but they hadn't quite worked that balance out yet.

They tried to get their Klingon arms in a rhythm, legs kicking, to get enough momentum before they started to sink. They were pleased that they managed to keep this going even as their Bolian body straightened up at the approach of Commander Rouiancet.

Rouiancet: Hello, Yinn. How are you doing?

Yinn: I would be lying if I said it wasn't an adjustment, but it has not been as difficult as I feared. Having two bodies and two sets of eyes and ears was a lot to process, but it turns out two brains working together can process quite a lot.

Lia reached back, and Lohkina passed her a ribbon with a gold star. The Captain's Commendation.

Rouiancet: My experience of Starfleet has always been that you never know exactly what you're going to get. I've worn the uniforms of medical, operations, and command divisions, and even with all that, I wouldn't have been prepared to handle every obstacle set before you at Cheyd'lang, from the bridge to the hillsides beyond the King's Path mines. I took comfort, too, just in having your competence and adaptability with me, even and probably especially when we stared down Achi’Trinot. That might have been enough to recognize you with this citation, but you did so much more, too. Thank you, truly.

They came up sputtering, with a mouthful of water, but managed to stay placid in front of the Commander. This was getting easier.

Yinn: Thank you, sir. I just wanted to keep everyone safe. And I'm looking forward to continuing our diplomatic efforts with the UDP. ::scissor the legs, hands pull the water towards you:: If they begin to see us as a partner and not an adversary, we could be helping to usher in an era of peace and prosperity in both quadrants. It's a very exciting time to be serving in the Gamma Quadrant.

They rubbed the ribbon between their fingers. They kept their head above water for a few strokes.

Rouiancet: response

They pinned the ribbon to their uniform, opposite side from the comm badge.

Yinn: Thank you again, sir.

[end scene unless Tony wants to add more]
