((Fields of Æstin, Valaria III))
Unlike anyone in the long line of people waiting outside the gates of Æstin, the noblewoman peeking out of her palanquin wore a light blue eyeliner, accentuating the blackness of her eyes. Her long black hair rolled down white linens with intricate red patterns brocaded upon them. The linens were pinned together with a long glass fibula that could’ve doubled as a dagger. Her collar came up so far as to give her the strange impression of having no neck. She did not wear shoes, and did not, in fact, come anywhere near to the ground to talk to them.
Noblewoman: A moment ago, you didn’t seem so keen on waiting.
With her thumb, Jania lifted the sash that had attracted the noblewoman’s attention a moment ago.
Nis: Doesn’t this sash give us the right to be impatient in this line?
Richards: Response
Riley: We apologize for being late. We…that is, I, got distracted.
Jania waggled her finger at Riley to show the noblewoman how disappointed she was in his distraction, then glanced at the woman to see if the performance had any effect. It did not appear to.
Katsim / Richards: Response
Noblewoman: Distracted? What undoubtedly grotesque behavior distracted a guild member like yourself?
Jania cringed. Was the guild something creepy? Did it matter, if they still got inside that castle?
Riley: The source of the distraction is unimportant. We are here now. What were we talking about?
Katsim / Richards: Response
Nis: Yeah, exactly.
Noblewoman: Mhmm. Who is the leader here?
Jania just pointed slowly to Anton.
Katsim/Richards/Riley: Response
Noblewoman: ::waving dismissively :: Fine fine. Listen, I have sought a favor from the guild on three occasions and been denied. I’ll vouch for your entry -if-, once inside, you petition on my behalf.
Katsim/Richards/Riley: Response
Noblewoman: The Grand Almoness Vishæ Pruss. And you are?
Although she tried to keep her face neutral, Jania felt her eyebrow rise. Unless the universal translator was broken, the title implied something to do with distributing money to the poor. But that certainly didn’t appear to be one of the Almoness’s duties today.
Katsim/Richards/Riley: Response
Entering the massive city, Jania found herself too distracted to answer. Inside, more than just the towers visible from beyond the wall had fabulous glass windows; every building in front of them had multicolored windows, and rather than flat sheets of glass like early Trill windows, these were thick with slight waving patterns. The dusk light reflecting off these thousands of undulating glass windows was a wondrous site, and the flittering sunbeams created colors she’d never seen before.
