Intro

((Corridor by Interview Rooms, Upper Deck, Habitat Ring, Deep Space 9, Time index: 240112.103))

T'reth and Avander Promontory walked the halls of Deep Space Nine. It had been some time since T’reth had served with the Department of Temporal Investigations. Her new post, on the USS Themis, was more of a match for her skill sets. Criminal investigation was more straight-foward than Temporal Investigations. But the common denominator was people. People (and, statistically, usually human people) were typically the cause of crimes both temporal and linear. And so, when DTI had contacted her to “reactivate” her as their only potential asset in the Gamma Quadrant, she had accepted and been [summary]

Promontory: So I understand the preliminary reviews are complete?

T’reth: Yes, your ship and the majority of your crew are cleared to return to their normal duties.

The installation of a temporal anchor into the Butler’s central core, had done much to alleviate HQ’s concerns about additional atemporality. The problem, of course, was that a little time travel invited a lot of time travel. While their scientists were still working to define the exact causes, it seemed that every trip through time for an individual or vessel increased the likelihood of additional trips through time in the future, as it were. The temporal anchor would tamp down on some of that, hopefully.

Promontory: Only the majority of the crew?

T’reth: Yes. The Department has several follow-up questions for members of your senior staff. (beat) And Commander Johnson would like to have a word with you directly.

Promontory: Of course she does.

He stopped as they arrived at the waiting room that had been provisioned for the interviewees.

Promontory: May I ask who still needs to be spoken to?

T’reth: Yes.

Avander waited a moment and realised nothing more would be forthcoming from that prompt.

Promontory: “Who still needs to be spoken to?”

T’reth: Ensigns Caras, Nis, & Lahl. I believe there’s also interest in speaking with Lt Forsyth and Lt Commander Katsim.

Avander’s eyes narrowed.

Promontory: Members of the team who went to 2340.

T’reth: As you say. (pivoting to the door across the hall) Here’s where I leave you, I must submit my final report and return to my present assignment. Permanent DTI staff are here to conduct the rest of their business.

With a slight nod, the Vulcan woman took her leave.

Promontory: (to himself) I wonder who’d they’ve got running point with the ensigns?

Ensign Iliac adjusted her uniform one more time. These would be her first solo interviews, and she wanted everything to be perfect. The half-Deltan was proud to have been chosen as a field agent with the Department of Temporal Affairs and particularly pleased that she could retain her Starfleet commission as she served.

While she wanted to believe her appointment at such a young age was due to her dedication and talent, she was also honest enough to admit that she was entering into service at a time of great need for the Federation.

She checked the chronometer. Her first interview should be starting… now.

The door chimed.

Iliac: Come!
