Peters: (low) If we attempt to get closer, we may spook him.

Greaves: Possibly. If something doesn’t develop soon though, it may be worth the risk. My hope is we can get something meaningful observing the exchange that we can use to grill Sonn with after this is over.

Varik: Response

Peters: (low) Understandable.

Wes nodded again.

Greaves: Let’s give it another minute. Then we’ll try and get closer.

Varik: (low) This is escalating.

Peters: (low) As you say, sir.

Greaves: Alright, lets see if we can’t get cl---

An altercation broke out before Wes finished, the man closest to the freighter had been pushed backward hard enough to make him stumble and trip off the extended gangway. He remained there for a moment, as though not immediately returning to his feet.

Sonn doubled back to pick up the duffle bags, and quickly made his way aboard.

Varik: (low) Let's go!

Cadfael started to move, Varik too.

Greaves: No wait!

And he stopped. The chap on the ground had procured a disruptor.

Varik: (low) Now?

Greaves: Alright, move, quickly, but quietly!

Weapons drawn, the trio moved out from behind their cover moving quick and quiet along the edges of the various equipment and storage containers. Sonn, meanwhile, started to turn around and the freighter crew who had been on the ground rose to their feet.

The distance seemed to get smaller. And smaller. It was then that Sonn spotted them — his gaze darted between the disruptor and the 3 Starfleet officers before making his way backwards up the ramp. Cadfael couldn’t help but notice the eyes wide in panic as he began his ascent.

A bolt of green energy emitted from the disruptor and the blast caught Sonn squarely in the chest, causing him to collapse to the gangway before rolling off of it as the gravity kicked in.

The crewman leapt over the body of his fallen foe and double-timed it up the ramp. Within seconds. So quickly that no Starfleetian could raise their weapon in time.

Greaves: Freeze.

The man didn’t even hesitate however and continued sprinting up the gangway toward the safety of the inside of the freighter.

The ops officer ran up to the crumpled body, and knelt down next to it, two fingers on the neck but with his phaser pointed at the departing vessel.

Varik: Checking Sonn! (kneeling down and checking for a pulse) Commander, do you have the medical tricorder?

Cadfael knelt down and procured the tricorder from his kit, then ran a scan of their quarry. Unfortunately, they were too late. He glanced up at his team and with a completely deadpan expression on his face replied simply:

Peters: He’s dead, Varik.
