((OOC: The intro portion is, like Brent's log, an allusion to some things from the Picard seasons spoilers. Mine is referencing things from season 1 mostly and some of the effects on Security in general. Two birds stoned at once with this sim.))

((Chief Security Officer's Office, Deck 7, USS Octavia E. Butler))

The shake-up on Earth over the last year continued to plague the ranks of the Security Division of Starfleet. Orders that kept coming through seemed vague and sloppily written. Often even feeling like they were up for interpretation by the Chiefs. It was clear to Aine that no one seemed to want to take responsibility. But there was one person she knew that often had answers...because she was there.

The holo display over her desk glowed with the classic blue outlines around the wide-eyed blonde Lieutenant she knew from the Academy.

Sherlock: I just need some clarification. What do these even mean?

Kennedy: Which ones?

Sherlock: All of them. None of them make sense. They feel less like orders and more like ::beat:: reminders?

Aine dropped the PADD onto her desk in frustration.

Sherlock: Tara, how bad is it there?

Kennedy: Really bad. Like, there's no one person in charge here. Command doesn't trust anyone. And I'm still heading up the investigations.

Sherlock: Of who?

Kennedy: Of everyone. You wouldn't believe how many people were complicit in the Commodore's actions. Security's command center here is gutted. We're down to only thirty percent of the needed personnel.

Aine shook her head. The Romulan Free State had done quite the number. She started to wonder if all the progress made while she was on 118 was nothing more than a ruse to distract Starfleet while Oh worked over the Federation from within.

Kennedy: I don't have any orders, yet, but don't be surprised if I have to even question you.

Sherlock: Me!? Why me?

Kennedy: Because of the Romulan you were ::beat:: whatever with.

Sherlock: I was perfectly open about that. AND! I got a lot of info about the Type 26.

Kennedy: ::holding up her hands to slow Aine down:: Which is probably why it hasn't happened. Look, I know you, I trust you. But you need to know that there's a lot of people being busted down or discharged.

Aine's PADD beeped and she picked it back up. There was a message, the arrival of a new officer.

Sherlock: I have to go. But hey, if you ever get bored of internal investigations, I could get you out here.

Kennedy: I may take you up on that. You're lucky you're way out there. It doesn't feel safe back home.

They gave each other a nod before closing the line. Looking back down at her PADD, Aine quickly browsed the personnel record before her. It appeared there was a connection to the officer arriving to at least the known lineage of the Butler as he had previously served on the USS Thor.

Sherlock: ::speaking aloud to herself to try and remember the name:: Lieutenant Richards, Lieutenant Richards, Lieutenant Richards.

She got up from her desk and made her way to the short hall that lead to the reception area of Security.

((Reception Area, Security Center, Deck 7, USS Octavia E. Butler))

Standing on the far side of the console that was just inside the door, she saw the man she'd seen in the personnel file, waiting patiently. She approached and stood next to the console, looking up at him.

Sherlock: Lieutenant ::pulling out her PADD as she'd forgotten the name already:: Richards. I'm Chief Sherlock.

Richards: response

Sherlock: Welcome to the Butler. Hopefully the trip out to Deep Space 14 wasn't too long?

Richards: response

Sherlock: Well, I'll get your clearances setup and show you around. Most importantly, we'll get over to Ops and make sure you get assigned some quarters. And I'm sure they'll like to show off their little area of the ship. I'm sure you know how those Operations people can be?

Richards: response
