((Main Engineering, Deck 11, USS Octavia E. Butler))
While the turbolifts may have been a more comfortable journey, the jefferies tubes were the most efficient given that the access way they were trying to get to was in the same position they stood, 4 decks down.
Paradi: After you, sir. I imagine you're more familiar with the engineering tubes than I am.
Herrick: Perhaps, just slightly ::beat:: she’s still got that new ship smell.
Josh had always wondered where that expression had stemmed from, as the atmospheric recyclers usually extracted any odour and he’d never really smelt a difference between the ‘Oumuamua.
The tubes were too tight for the men to crawl together, so Paradi was bringing up the rear. Josh had been working on breathing exercises, trying to regulate his breathing.
It seemed like each time he was getting closer to resolving his claustrophobia, another set back happened. He just hoped he was far enough ahead that the other man wouldn't hear him trying to steady it.
Paradi: =/\= Petty Officer Paradi to Ops. =/\=
Nilsen: =/\= Response =/\=
Paradi: =/\= I'm with Lieutenant Herrick in tube, erm... ::He looked around, but unable to spy what he wanted Julien stumbled a little.:: please monitor systems in our current location, and track our movements. We're heading to investigate a possible system malfunction at junction....
There was a pause from the transporter officer, and Josh filled in the gap.
Herrick: =/\= Jefferies Junction 15-Charlie-2, good to hear your voice Lhandon. =/\=
Nilsen: =/\= Response =/\=
Josh stopped crawling for a fraction of a moment, glad that Paradi couldn’t see his face as a full out grin had broken across his face. Then, before the officer would bump into his behind, he started crawling again.
Paradi: =/\= Yes, that was me. But they're both fine. Please confirm you have our location on screen? =/\=
Nilsen: =/\= Response =/\=
Herrick: =/\= Good; we’ll keep the comm line open while we do our inspection. =/\=
Nilsen: =/\= Response =/\=
It was a good question; it was unusual and not following standard operating procedures.
Herrick: =/\= Well… the last time I opened it up, I found myself in Sickbay. So I think Paradi and I are going with an abundance of caution with this round. =/\=
Nilsen/Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=
The next few moments went without a hitch, as they climbed down the ladder through several decks and arrived at the junction. Josh pressed the hatch activator, and saw the tube looking pristine.
Herrick: =/\= I need to give my team more credit; miracle workers here after only a day. =/\=
Josh pulled out his tricorder and scanned the panel that he would have previously opened, his mind still foggy on the events. As he looked at the read out, staring at it, he saw an almost undetectable variance. Most would have dismissed it as on the edge of a margin of error. He passed his tricorder over to Paradi.
Herrick: ::passing his tricorder to Paradi:: =/\= What do you make of this? =/\=
Nilsen/Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=
