OOC: This actually comes *before* wayward son!
IC:
((Quarters 1118, Deck 5, USS Ronin))
He’d spent considerably less time developing a recipe to send to Nesre on this occasion. It had taken a day in sickbay before his concussion had subsided and then he’d mostly been laying low. His right eye was less painful, but still black. The other side of his face was bruised as was his side having been on the receiving end of Kos’s kicks and punches. His own hands were bruised as well from having been used to send several punches back at his brother to fight him off. In the end the two had been pulled apart by security. Kos was now in the brig, but still requesting Ushaan-tor.
The recipe was a rice noodle dish from Earth’s Asian region, which included sauteed vegetables and chicken. It wasn’t much but V’Len decided to send it anyway and try to dream up something else in the meantime. Much to his surprise a comm channel chimed in his quarters. Nesre was calling already.
The recipe had come just as Nesre returned to her quarters, a fortunate bit of timing. Since she knew it had arrived only within the last few seconds, she elected to take advantage of the knowledge that V’Len was available and immediately sent a response via a call. As the screen lit up, she started to speak a greeting, but the sight that greeted her stole her words away and, instead, replaced them with an exclamation of surprise.
Salo: =/\=V’Len! What happened!?=/\=
Kel: =/\= Nesre ::blinking:: I’m sorry, I must look a fright. =/\=
Salo:=/\= That’s…one way of putting it.=/\=
The poor man looked as if he had taken a beating. If he tried to give her some story about running into a door, she knew it was a completely and total lie. First off, it was an old excuse, the oldest one in the book. Second off, most doors no longer swung in or out but slid open, meaning running into one was likely to break a nose, not give someone a black eye.
Kel: =/\= Well we were trying to help some colonists evacuate their colony due to a terraforming operation by the Tholians and Sheliak. There were fires across the planet. =/\=
Leaning forward, Nesre peered closely at the visage of the man, the poor battered eye along with the other side of his face both showing evidence of suffering from some sort of fight. How did that figure into the fires across the planet?
Salo: =/\= Don’t tell me that was caused by flames?=/\=
She knew very well it wasn’t, that much was obvious, but she hoped he would give her more of the story.
Kel: =/\=No, I didn’t get caught in the fire, but the civilians were very anti-Federatoin. One even took a shot at Rox. =/\=
Salo:=/\= The civilians you were trying to help did this to you?=/\=
Did they have no common sense? The Federation had come to help them during a situation that was life threatening, and they acted in hostility?
Kel: ::sitting down in a chair:: Ah, no. I did not get beat up by the civilians, I was back on the Ronin. We almost lost a nacelle.
Salo:=/\= And…that’s how you got it?=/\=
He was doing it again. Answering the question by not answering the question by going through everything that had led up to the actually event that had left its mark. In this case, the mark was right on his face.
Kel: No. I got tossed around a bit but no injuries there.
Salo: =/\= So…how *did* you get them. Beyond fires and angry civilians and lost nacelles?=/\=
Kel: ::chuckling:: =/\= Sorry. I guess I made a short story long. ::clearing his throat:: One of the colonists, the one who took a shot at Rox, is my brother Kos. =/\=
Salo:=/\= Oh.=/\=
Kos. She knew the name. Although she had never met the man, she understood that V’Len’s relationship with his families was…well, complicated. On one side, it was good. On the other…
Definitely complicated, but mainly because of Kos.
Kel: =/\= As you know he was not supportive of my staying V’Len and he’s still pretty bitter about it. =/\=
Salo: =/\= Yes, I remember.=/\=
One one hand, she could understand. The man still grieved the loss of a brother. On the other, she wished he looked at V’Len for who he was, a man in his own right, and one who deserved to live.
Salo: =/\= But how did he get involved? =/\=
Kel: =/\= During the evacuation emotions were high, apparently he showed up at the landing sight to object but then ingratiated himself with our ground team. =/\=
Salo: =/\= And he was there? Did you know he would be there?=/\=
V’Len threw his hands up. Kristy had asked much the same question. On some level he should probably know, wasn’t he supposed to be his brother’s keeper? But V’Len had lost most of contact with Kos after the “inquest” ended and he was allowed to remain V’Len Kel.
Kel: =/\= Apparently he’d left the Federation and started a life for himself on Grus Beta 3. I had no idea he was out this way living as a farmer. =/\=
Salo: =/\=That is quite surprising. =/\=
She was certain that Kel was more surprised than she was. Gazing at the marks upon the man’s face, she shook her head.
Salo: =/\= And he did this to you?=/\=
She wanted confirmation, since Kel had a tendency to string along thoughts and not necessarily get to the actual even that produced a result. That was one of his quirks. It was something she missed about him.
Kel: ::running his fingers on his forehead:: =/\= Yes. Apparently the Andorian combat training we received as kids is still effective for him.=/\=
Salo: =/\=And he hit you. Were there no consequences? =/\=
Kel:::shaking his head:: =/\= Now he's in the brig. My understanding is that he took matters of justice into his own hands and killed a high ranking member of the Colony’s administration. =/\=
