OOC: Only left two tags since this is a rather large scene. Wasn’t sure if y’all wanted to keep going or end, so feel free to end if that was your intent! I’ll go with the flow! :)
(( Sickbay, Deck 5, USS Octavia E. Butler ))
Once the Butler emerged from the system, it had caught up to the Unity Dow pretty quickly. With both ships dealing with the aftermath of what happened, the crew aboard one returned to her home vessel. Since injuries and radiation poisoning were both on the ‘what can we do to make those on the UD miserable’ list, the natural consequence was a trick to sickbay. Once there, Nilsen started waxing dramatic, something else that Ithri found irritating.
Nilsen: We stared death in the face and told it to go do one. Treat Sh’shelor first. The Lieutenant got messed up. She took down like 200 of them nodes down herself. Tox you there?
Miash: Thank you dear, let me do the medical triaging, but I do appreciate your help darling.
Miash was familiar to the Andorain, but the other was not. As Ithri studded the Trill, she canted her head slightly, her antennae arching toward the woman briefly, then relaxed. Her smile spoke of someone with confidence and pride.
Nis: Also, it's not an issue of anyone getting care sooner. We've got enough biobeds for all of you. Can you tell us a bit about what the situation was like down there?
Sh’shelor: There were many hallucinations, and some of them affected us physically.
Case in point, something had grabbed Caras, lifted him high, then dropped him. However, once they were out of the system, Ithri had run a thorough check for the creature, but nothing, not even traces of it could be found.
Sh’shelor: However, there was technology that somehow activated and moved. And sliced.
Despite the pain in her legs, Sh’shelor had managed to limp all the way to Sickbay on her own. If her implants had acted up, it would have been a different matter, but her experience had forced her to develop a very high pain tolerance, and though every step triggered those nerves, she endured the entire way.
Sh’shelor: Radiation helped stop them.
Caras: Response
Evidently the new person was really new - as in very inexperienced. The way she covered her mouth as they told about their ‘adventure’ only made that far too obvious. When they came to the radiation and how they had purposefully exposed the area and everyone there to it, her eyes grew as wide as saucers.
Nilsen: Get over there, Mo. ::winces in pain:: You’re messed up too.
Sh’shelor: Of us all, I am least worrisome. The others are more susceptible to radiation poisoning than I am.
Which in the Andorian’s mind was far worse than broken bones or shredded legs.
Caras: Response
Nis: And you, Lieutenant Nilsen?
Nilsen: No, no, Ensign, I’m good. I can ::out of breath:: I can walk this off. I've had worse. I gotta get back to the Dow. They need all the help that can get there.
Ithri’s eyes narrowed as she regarded the man. He was being stupid. Of course he needed assistance, and he was just as bad off as Caras and Arlill. When she spoke, she had not spoken lightly. Her very make up was hardier than any of the others, and she had fared far better.
Miash: I’m not going to say it again dear, you need to lie down.
Nis: Lieutenant Nilsen, we don't lack resources to help the Dow, but we will be a bit strained from a personnel standpoint if we're caring for your team and the Dow. Radiation poisoning can have unexpected side effects even weeks after the fact, so if you want to help the people Dow, your best bet is a quick check on the biobed. Under proper Starfleet procedure, we're meant to assist our own crew first and others second, so the faster you cooperate, the faster we can all help the people on the Dow.
Arlill: Lhandon, maybe you should listen to her. (Beat) We all need to take a beat.
Sh’shelor: Shut up Nilsen and get on the bed or I will pick you up and put you there.
She meant what she said. While Ithri had not gone uninjured when Nilsen fell, she was quite strong. Had she been better prepared, she likely would have been able to catch him without hurting herself, and now that they were safe in the Sickbay, she did have the ability to do exactly what she said she would do. As if to prove her point, she stepped forward, doing her best to mask the stiffness in her movements. Her face remained unmoved, not a trace of pain washing over the features set into severe determination.
Nilsen/Caras: Response
Nis: Nurse Miash, I'm sure you know the general treatment for radiation poisoning. While you're preparing it, I'll work on Lieutenant Sh'shelor's leg injuries.
Miash: :: looking a tricorder :: Looks like a round of Hyronalyn might be on today’s menu.
Menu? Were they eating? Perhaps the treatment was oral rather than given intravenously. Ithri made sure Nilsen was going to obey before she took a bio bed for herself. Carefully, she pulled herself up with her arms, putting as little pressure on the legs as possible. While she could move and did move and forced herself to move, she wasn’t going to ignite the pain anymore than necessary, especially now she was in Sickbay.
Arlill: Did anyone else notice anything weird before we left the Unity?
Arlill’s question caught her attention and the antennae drifted in his direction before her eyes fell upon him, the crystalline blue sharply studying him.
Sh’shelor: Such as?
Nilsen/Caras: Response
Nis: To a doctor, "weird" is a code for "potentially medically relevant."
They waited, all of them did, but as if their responses made him change his mind, she dismissed his inquiry.
Arlill: Nevermind I’m sure it was my imagination recovering from the hallucinations
Ithri’s eyes narrowed, that time at the hybrid. Dismissal only reinforced the idea that something was wrong. Fortunately, the doctor wasn’t going to have it.
Nis: Perhaps, but even if it was a hallucination, it'll help us determine treatment strategies. ::Pause to glance at Guthrah :: Ensign Guthrah experienced hallucinations as well, and his brain patterns are still somewhat abnormal. Knowing about your experience will help us treat him.
Arlill: Response
While Arlill responded, the young doctor shuffled over to Ithri herself and started work on her legs. Leaning back and lying still, Ithri’s face did not belie anything as the doctor worked. No pain, no concern, nothing flashed over her expression. She simply lay there and stared at the woman observing her wounds. Surprisingly, the sound of a tricorder was conspicuously absent, which spurred a glance in the woman’s direction. Though the fingers touched the tender spots, even going so far as to spread some of the deeper ones with her fingers, the face did not move, nor did it give any indication to the pain that the Andorian actually felt.
Nis: Most of these are superficial, but a few are deep and this one here has struck an artery. ::As she spoke, she used the back of her palm to put pressure on the one that was still weeping blood. :: The biobed will sterilize the wounds automatically. We'll use a vascular regenerator on the deep wounds before addressing the dermal wounds. We've heard Andorians sometimes like to keep scars. Should we leave any of these?
Those clear blue eyes flicked to the Doctor, and a hint of appreciation glinted within for someone who was cognizant of their culture.
Sh'shelor: No. not these. Keep the old, but remove the new.
She had no need to remember that particular incident and did not feel the fight had been particularly memorable other than being unique. Battling live nodes wasn’t exactly something she wanted to brag about. However, there were scars on her legs, ones that ran from her heels all the way up and disappeared into her clothing, but without any sign of fading. There was more there, but she had no desire to discuss it. However, she did wish to keep that one. It served as an important reminder to her.
Caras/Miash/Nilsen/: Response
Arlill: What’s next? (beat) You’re all ordered to rest and relaxation, I’ll see to that!
Sh’shelor: Then you must listen to your own advice.
Arlill/Caras/Miash/Nilsen/Nis: Response
Sh’shelor: First though, treatment. Then rest. Drinks perhaps. Food. And more rest.
There were more battles to be fought, more strangeness to discover, more unknown to explore. They had managed to make it out of that awful place, and hopefully would not have to go back. However, they also had to be ready for what lay ahead, and just as they had experienced, the galaxy was a wide and varied place, and one never knew what it would throw their way.
