((Ship’s Library, Deck 10, U.S.S. Octavia E. Butler))

Kimonzi looked around at the books above her as she spoke with Lieutenant Herrick. He was apparently more optimistic about the possibility of it being a cosmic entity messing with them, but Kimonzi was not necessarily convinced.

Lahl: I just hope it’s not a cosmic being messing with us somehow.

Herrick: (smiling) I would hope that they’d have better things to do with their time… but then again I don’t know what passes for fun if you are a cosmic being.

Kimonzi started to hear thuds around them. She looked up and realized that some of the books were starting to fall down. As she came to that realization. While that was happening, an angry Denobulan came running up to them.

Curator: Nooooo! ::watching another book drop:: No no no! Fix this, some of these are FIRST editions on loan!

She gave him a weird look before talking to him.

Kimonzi: On loan from where?

Curator: ::huffing:: Obviously from the Federation archives; do none of you read the newsletter?! I told them this was a bad idea and did they ever listen to Maff; of course not! ::breathing heavily with nostrils flared::

Kimonzi: Ok, well, usually the newsletter doesn’t have anything interesting so I regret I did not read it.

She noticed Lieutenant Herrick lean up right before War and Peace fell on him. Kimonzi could only think that would have really hurt if that had actually connected with his head.

Herrick: The cover seems in immaculate condition.

Maff: ::picking up the thick book and holding it closely:: I lead the restoration work and while I’ve been diligent in bringing them back to their former glory. ::a wide frown growing on them:: But you see this… :: showing a cracked spine:: It’s going to take ages to fix this.

Kimonzi: What was that?

Kimonzi took a tricorder out and started to scan the metal device that had fallen out of the book that Maff was brandishing at her and Lieutenant Herrick. Her experience with the devices on the Unity Dow had taught her a lesson in touching random things.

Maff: What was what? ::looking down at where Kimonzi was scanning::

Herrick: Response

Lahl: This thing.

Kimonzi stood up, holding onto the small metal device that had fallen out of the book. She presented it to Lieutenant Herrick.

Maff: Hey! If it was in a book it needs to go back.

Lahl: Sir, what do you make of this thing? ::fending off the eccentric librarian:: Will you knock it off?

Herrick: Response

Lahl: Well, my scans showed that it’s currently not operating and not making any noise, but it may be related.

Maff: Just give it back and I’ll take care of it myself!

Lahl: Do you want our help with all of these books or not?

That seemed to placate the Denobulan a bit. At least his face hadn’t puffed up like they were capable of doing.

Herrick: Response
