OOC: Guys, I know I told you that multiple times but since Jaz uses both she and they, I'll sometimes mix between both pronouns in my narration, mostly using they. But feel free to use either when referring to Jaz.

(( USS Ardent, Main Sickbay ))

The crackling sound of the tricorder attached to their EVA suit, plus Boran's own tricorder, was the most overwhelming beeping sound that the Ensign ever heard. Combined to the multiple beepings in the Main Sickbay, the engineering officer was even more tense.

Because they knew, every beep could possibly mean something bad.

Beep

Some crew member in a bad, dying-of-old state.

Beep

More radiation was detected.

Beep

Oh, check that essential medical device to keep someone alive! It's also emitting radiation!

Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
Beeeeeep.

Someone had passed in the room, and that was all Boran could hear. The beeps.

oO May their pagh rest in peace. Oo

Jaz turned off the second tricorder on their hand, and gripped firmly on the blue toolbox, looking for comfort. They had to recompose themselves, and so they did. A deep inhale. Two. And now, the beeps were only the ones they needed to hear: the tricorder scans.

Lahl: What am I looking at?

JoNz: The rads are way elevated…this is what caused the crew to age and the ship to start dying.

Lahl: Oh boy. We need to figure out a way to get this reversed…and hopefully the EVA suits are protecting us.

Kimonzi double checked the radiation seals on her suit to make sure nothing was happening to her. Boran did the same. Lucky them, everything seemed to be alright.

Boran: Considering the exposure level of the coolant line and here at Medical, we would probably be around ten years older by now. I think we are safe, Commander.

JoNz: The ship may be a lost cause, but I’m not giving up on the crew. How can we negate the radiation that they’ve absorbed? What are our options?

Boran Jaz, Marine Captain JoNz and Commander Lahl were cracking heads trying to brainstorm possible ways out of the situation and solutions to their main problem.

Lahl: We could study the phenomenon to see if reversing through it would undo the effects. We could evacuate the crew to our ship and try to reverse the aging there, or…hm…

Boran: Agreed, Commander. But considering how fast this stuff spreads through power conduits, taking anything back to our ship might just contaminate the Butler. I think we need to isolate the frequency right here.

Boran stands near a bio-bed, and kneels on the floor, her toolbox right beside her, ready for action.

Boran: If we can isolate the subatomic signature of the chronotrons, we could modify Sickbay's life-support filters to scrub the temporal radiation out of the room, creating a safe zone before we try to treat the biological damage. We gotta fight physics with more physics, I'm afraid.

Lahl: That’s a good idea. How do we go about implementing it though?

oO Now here's the catch. Oo

Boran: The way I see it, Commander, we could modify the bio-beds directly or rewire the whole room's power grid to act as a giant radiation dampener. Either way, we have to emit an inverse frequency to reverse the chronitrons polarity and neutralize them.

Lahl: Well, that sounds like a good start to a plan, what do you think Captain JoNz?

Boran: Captain, just keep it in mind that option one despite being the fastest and easiest, is less guaranteed of success, and option two is more complicated but more likely to work.

JoNz: Response

Lahl: Ok, so we need to reverse the chronitons…has anyone here done that before?

Boran: Nuh huh. Nope. I did have a dream one time...

Jaz joked, trying to light up the mood. And distract herself from the beeps. Little did they know, the Ensign did actually have a weird dream about dissipating chronotrons into a hasperat.

JoNz: Response

Lahl: Guess there is a first time for everything.

Boran: We've got this.

Jaz spoke confidently, flashing a smirk from behind the helmet. Starting to open the blue toolbox, surely the engineering officer would find some useful tool there, even if they couldn't use their biomechanical arm without damaging the EVA suit. Boran looked up at the two senior officers, resting a hand on a micro-spanner.

Boran: That said, Captain, Commander... where do we start? Option one with the beds, or option two with the grid?

JoNz/Lahl: Response
