OOC I started a few conversations, and I will happily and intentionally pick them all up wherever you folks want to take them.
(( Solar Sail Observation Hall, Deep Space 14 ))
As soon as Lia and Avander had finished announcing the ribbons and the yeomen had finished their rounds, the former pair stepped down from the dais.
Promontory: Shall we? (indicated the crowds) Maybe we divide and conquer?
Lia looked around the hall, considering who she'd want to seek out first, and if they'd be the same as whoever Avander wanted to speak to first. Likely not, so she nodded. It made sense to split up, at least at first.
Rouiancet: Yes, let's. But then let's meet up again. I don't want to miss out on you for the whole reception.
Promontory: Response
The pair headed out into the hall, separately. Lia was treated first to the sight of Max's ginger cat clambering onto his table, and she hid a smile as she nearly collided with Una Qualunque, who was passing. She seemed preoccupied, but Lia still flagged her down.
Rouiancet: Hello, Una!
Qualunque: Response
Lia shook her head. She wasn't looking for anything in particular, especially since Una seemed to be on her way out, other than congratulating Una directly.
Rouiancet: Congratulations on the ribbon. You more than earned it, with your quick thinking and, well, innovation. (beat) Have you thought before about training as an officer? You definitely displayed officer thinking.
Not that Lia cared much for defining what kind of thinking separated officers from enlisted crew -- but based on the previous mission, she could easily see Una as a chief science officer of a ship or base one day. Of course, that required that she was actually an officer.
( Slightly Later )
Although Lia had recognized Jania Nis with a lifesaving ribbon, she had yet to actually meet the new medical officer. Therefore, after she and Una had parted ways, she made a beeline for the ensign.
Rouiancet: Hello, Jania. I'm Lia Rouiancet.
It always seemed a little silly to Lia for a captain to introduce themself to a new crew member, since of course everyone knew who the captain was -- but at the same time, it would be rude not to, and she also felt presumptuous if she didn't. She knew that she'd never needed a CO to introduce themself, but she also couldn't stomach the arrogant expectation that everyone on the crew should know her immediately.
Nis: Response
Rouiancet: I wanted to congratulate you on that ribbon. (nodding to it) How are you settling in so far?
Nis: Response
( Slightly Later )
Lia knew exactly who she wanted to seek out next, and found him with no difficulty. Anton wasn't a particularly large person, no more so than was average for many humans and humanoids, and yet he carried himself in a way that Lia was able to spot from half the hall away.
Rouiancet: Anton, hello!
Richards: Response
She smiled and shook her head.
Rouiancet: I promise, I"m not. I only wanted to check in and see how you're doing, after...
She trailed off. In the same way it seemed rude both to and not to introduce herself to junior officers and crew, it seemed gauche to and not to remind Anton that he'd collapsed on the bridge.
Richards: Response
