(Operations Centre, Upper Level, USS Octavia E Bulter)

Julien had made the right call. There would be some flak coming towards operations, but Lhandon could handle it. As soon as he found out why Julien had taken them down, it took him only a few seconds to mentally draft the rebuttal. Although he wasn't the greatest follower of regulations, he could probably find a couple to cite.

Besides, ops has always had his back, so it’s only right to return the favour.

But before he could go toe to toe with a grumpy two and a half pip, there was a mystery to solve

Nilsen: =/\= It don’t make sense. I’m looking for the kernel dump and I’m finding nothing. According to the computer josh when you got transported out, that…never happened….Obviously that’s not right. This damn computer is trying to gaslight us. Julien, can you access the kernel dump from either Br'desh and Watanabi, or Yinn’s incident, or even Josh’s incident? in case it didn’t find it’s way here and it’s still in local storage.=/\=

Lhandon was still on the comms call, proving support from the OC where needed. He'd identified that the kernel dump was missing and now the plot seemed to be thickening.

Paradi: =/\= The information is there, sir. But at the same time its not there. =/\=

Herrick: =/\= Hrmmm... There, but not there. =/\=

This was about the computer, which meant it fell under ops. Unlike the Oumuamua's computer, which seemed to love him, the computer on the OEB didn't. It always had an attitude towards him, and now the logs were getting lost. This had gone beyond a quirk or a glitch.

Paradi: =/\= Maybe we need to try from whichever terminal those logs were originally input from? =/\=

Herrick: =/\= I suspect that the same issue would be there; newer consoles don’t typically keep local data stores for records like these, they default to copying it over and then purging. The main computer library is treated as the single source of truth. That’s how they’ve been able to slim things down... but I can’t shake that I’ve heard something like this somewhere. =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= Though we’ve got nothing to lose by trying Julian’s Idea, aside from the time of marching down there and finding nothing, but Josh I know what you mean, there was some report a little while ago but I didn’t pay much attention because we were on the Oumuamua and it didn’t affect us . =/\=

Paradi: =/\= Could be a memory core issue? =/\=

Herrick: =/\= It could be; I mean the shakedown wasn’t as long as we would’ve liked but it seems strange that it’s isolated to these events; and these records would be post transport. =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= Isolated to these events?…I wonder, strange but ::Beat:: What if…Jullian, who can delete transporter logs?=/\=

Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=

Herrick: (nodding) =/\= You’re absolutely right... the Intelligence transport sequence works the same way, obfuscating the transport records so that the location is kept hidden from most officers. ::glancing at Paradi:: But I doubt they arrive upside down when they arrive at the department. =/\=

Then, an idea came. There was a lot of plumbing there. The more plumbing there was, the easier it was to clog the pipe.

Nilsen: =/\= So what if something interpreted that sequence? I=/\=

Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=

Herrick: =/\= I suspect that they route the transporter all around the ship so that there isn’t any clear sign of where the signal is stopping on a consistent basis. For all I know, it’s winding its way through every day. =/\=

This was started to prove to be one of those problems that Lhandon wished he could click his fingers and fix.

Nilsen/Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=

Herrick: =/\= So, if we entertain this assumption, what’s our next steps? =/\=

Lhandon thought about what to say, Herrick had asked them both for what they thought and while they are the same rank at the moment, he was happy to play second fiddle to Josh.

Nilsen: =/\= Unless those two officers are moonlighting as 007, we can assume that they’re not intending to use the intelligence protocols, so we gotta ask ourselves, is this a freak accident, or is someone attempting to use those protocols? =/\=

Lhandon gave his best guess. He wish he could Josh more to work with.

Herrick/Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= If we’re certain it’s the intelligence protocols, we’ll have to involve Promontory. at some point, but I’d rather wait until we know for certain=/\=

Herrick/Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= Julian, if you feel that we need to take all the transporters down, you have my blessing, I’ll deal with the fallout =/\=

Herrick/Paradi: =/\= Response =/\=
