(( Sickbay, Deck 5, USS Octavia E. Butler ))
Una glanced at the doctor and captain, seeking their approval. Normally, there were several layers of command above her; she was merely the last cog in the machinery of a large, ticking clock.
The data was quite clear, leaving little room for interpretation. Everything seemed correct and in order. But what if she was wrong? What if she had made a mistake, and this 'phase oscillation theory' was flawed? There were many lives at stake, including her own and those of two superior officers, the captain included. She swallowed nervously, her throat dry.
Una: So if we manage to hook up to their signal using the computer and this modified dpad, maybe we can stabilize their phase at -5, our own.
Rouiancet: It sounds to me like you have a better idea of what might help, and I think I followed the explanation, so: Do it. See what you can do.
Una looked back at the captain, who nodded in agreement. Even the doctor nodded.
Una: I suggest we initially perform phase stabilization on one or two test subjects. If successful, I have a small script ready to automate the process and subsequently restore the subject to their normal phase. We can then return them to their regular state one by one.
I would advise against a mass phase realignment to avoid potential unintended consequences such as creating anomalous beings. You know, like three-headed monkeys or other monstrous creatures.
Rouiancet: Well, I wonder if there's something we can do, physically, to help the transporter systems lock on to Nilsen. And us, potentially. An unusual radioisotope, maybe. Or a chroniton admixture. What do you think?
Toz: The mixture needs to be light. There are only the four of us at this time. Later… Well, later is another time. If it worked, the whole Dow crew could be rescued.
Una looked at Toz curiously.
Una: Well, we could potentially remove one of those multi-phase targeting crystals from a scanning device and adapt it to the bio-bed sensors. It could act as a resolution amplifier for our phase stabilization device.
All the comm badges started chirping like a flock of birds in a frenzy.
Rouiancet: =/\= This is Rouiancet. =/\=
Maybe Bridge?: =/\= Wilma, Wilma Nilsen here. =/\=
Toz: I don’t recognized the voice. ::Looking around:: Lia?
Una gazed at Toz, she must be very close to the Captain.
Toz heard herself call the commanding officer by her first name. And she’d done that before, she realized. Was that proper? Even in a situation like this, rank should be recognized. She wanted to apologize then decided to keep her mouth shut. She was only a j.g. and apologies were left to be voiced in private.
Una: Wilma? I don't recall any Wilma. Morgan, Sariah, Emilia, Isabella. No, no Betty indeed.
Una felt a puzzling look on her, so she changed subject.
Toz\Rouiancet: Response.
She considered replying like Una here, not the dog though – that one was Uno – but he changed his mind. He was already in enough trouble as it was. Even she recognized that going through personnel files and memorizing all the employees and their relatives, both near and far, was not exactly normal.
Una: Ah-ha! I get it! Bingo! We're in a parallel universe dominated by the Nilsens!
Maybe Bridge?: =/\= We have been alone for a long time. Finally, someone has arrived. Could you please provide us with support? =/\=
Una almost expected a different reply, with a robotic distorted voice, something like that: We are Nilsen, lower your shields and surrender!
She scratched her head nervously remembering that the Cap was there.
Toz\Rouiancet: Response.
Una tapped something on her modified dpad.
Una: Yes I'm ready to test the phase stabilization with the first Nilsen... At your command Cap!
Toz\Rouiancet: Response.
A weird buzzing green-blue light with sparkles surrounded the biobed where Barney Nilsen was lying... Barney's figure vibrated a bit, and then he looked much neater and more stable, and also changed color.
Una: He looks better to me... Doc do you feel him?
Toz\Rouiancet: Response.
