Lhandon found himself in the Arboretum, trying to avoid being hunted down by Tedd and Strilka of the Botanical Task Force. He needed Ledelfian Flowers to help the Horticulturist Guild of Seytoxala feel more at home and show the Seytoxala that Starfleet was respectful of their cultures, customs and even the botanical diversity of other worlds... and perhaps also win some brownie points with them. He just didn't need Tedd and Strilka to squark "Oh no, Lt. Nilsen, you can't do that. Continued positive maintenance of diplomatic relations with the people of the Gamma Quadrant is not as important as my Petunias."
He was a small distance away from Rouiancet and Nis and could just overhear their conversation, he thought it rude to stay nearby without announcing his presence, so he made his way.
Rouiancet: Oh. (beat) Hello.
Nis: Hello, Captain. How are you doing? Hey, do you know if there’s any Makara herb on the ship?
Rouiancet: I'm sorry, but this isn't really a good time.
Nis: Oh, we’re sorry, we didn’t mean to--it’s--okay, we’ll just--
Rouiancet: It's not you, it's -- I guess a kind of last look around.
Nis: Last look?
o0 What? 0o Lhandon wasn’t sure he heard that right?? But that can’t be right??? Last look around???? It was at this moment that he wasn’t going to let them come to him.
Rouiancet: Response
Nis: Oh. But why?
Rouiancet: Response
Nis: Really? We … we made some mistakes this mission. We let Caras go back to work too early. And Sevantha said she did too. She said we should go easy on ourselves, that it was a terrible situation and there was no way to get a neat victory. But we all did our best. A lot of people are alive today because of what we did for Koreli IV.
Rouiancet: Response
Nis: You were a doctor before, right? Dr. Moydol said he worked with you.
Rouiancet: Response
Nis: It’s nice to think of a doctor being in charge of a ship. Not someone violent, not even a researcher or a scientist, but a healer.
Rouiancet: Response
Lhandon had learned how to use subtlety but now wasn't the time. He'd won an award for his bullheadedness, as presented by both V'Airu and Rouiancet, and now it was time that he acted like that award was bespoke for him.
Nilsen: Sir… you had better be getting an admiralty and some cushy desk job because that's the only way you're allowed to leave us.
He did mean that — if she got offered some cushy desk job and an admiralty, then awesome, that would count as a win… but if she was regretting something.
Rouiancet/Nis: Response
Nilsen: Look, I know we're like way junior in rank and we don't know what it's like up there with the four pips, but you've been here for us… so let us be here for you.
Rouiancet had been there for Lhandon, from guiding him through his relationship with his former XO and learning how to manage that to support him in a new diplomatic role. It seemed only right that whatever was bothering Ro, he'd be there for her.
