(( Holodeck 3, Deck 8, USS Octavia E Butler ))
Progress had been made. Kevan, an automaton they’d found on the sphere during their most recent mission, was online. It had been programmed with authorized users, and they’d successfully conversed with it up to this point. Thomas was excited and hopeful that this technology could really help Starfleet, even if it was hundreds of years old.
Kevan: Memory bank updated.
The automaton had assimilated some basic information about Earth and it’s units of time measurement, this was progress.
O’Reilly: ::looking at the others:: I will setup a limited capacity database with key, public information, that it can consume over the next few days. Kevan if that will work for you?
Lahl: Indeed. Kevan, please, do your thing. To you two ::she turned to the lieutenants that helped her:: I’m going to get myself cleaned up. This holodeck is far too warm, even for a Mak’ala City girl like myself.
They all seemed a bit uncomfortable, from their appearance, as Thomas observed each of them seemingly drenched in sweat.
Varik: You go ahead, Lieutenant. I will remain and see that Kevan here is stored and can power cycle safely. (to Thomas) Can you give me a hand?
O’Reilly: Certainly Lieutenant. I’ve been monitoring it’s power functions since it came online, it might give us some…. ::interrupted::
Kevan: Warning... Power levels under 5%. Power saving mode activated.
oO Well that’s concerning. Oo Thomas really would have preferred not to go through that start up cycle again and really hoped the power saving mode would keep that from being a necessity.
O’Reilly: Perfect Kevan, we’ll be here when you wake up, ummm, come back online.
Thomas turned towards the console, in the time they’d spent since Kevan had come online, he’s set up a few systems monitors for specific automaton functions, power cycling was supposed to be working — it obviously wasn’t… They had their work cut out.
