((OOC I’m really pleased about this, Tony, as I just wanted to ask for a sim together with Karen and Lia, or something like that! ))

(( 8-Forward, USS Octavia E. Butler ))

Karen was looking forward to meeting Nijal Zimedia at 8-Forward. It was more informal than her office and would give her a chance to get to know her better.
Besides, after the last mission, she really needed a break and some casual conversation.
While waiting for her colleague, Karen had gotten lost staring out the viewport at the magnificent I-Kiyo ring. It was truly incredible.
However, she must have been at the wrong table because she noticed the Cardassian two tables away. So she got up and approached, carrying her newly ordered drink.

Stendhal: Hi, and thanks for the invitation. That's an amazing view we have today at 8-Forward.
She gazed back at the ring, impressed.

Nijal: It's beautiful, isn't it?

Karen's nose caught the unmistakable scent of gavaline tea. A smile tugged at her lips as she recalled countless cups shared with her mother on the cozy porch of their Betazed home.

Stendhal: Ah, Gavaline tea! I can't mistake that aroma.
Karen settled into the seat beside Nijal, setting her glass of frosty orzata on the table. The icy sweetness of the orzata and the warm, aromatic gavaline made for an interesting juxtaposition, but she had no plans to combine the two.

Nijal: Yes, it is. Do you like it?

Stendhal: Oh, I adore it! It takes me right back to my childhood. I would spend hours on the porch, sipping this with my mother. She was just as fond of it. This time, I decided on something cool and refreshing – iced orzata. It's a non-alcoholic drink with a unique flavor and my grandfather used to make me when we were on Earth.

Karen picked up the tall, transparent glass, filled with iced orzata, and took a sip. The liquid was a milky white, almost pearly, and it gently reflected the light. The ice cubes floated, creating small whirlpools and bubbles that slowly rose to the surface.

Nijal: I was hoping that we could have (beat) a conversation.

Karen nearly choked on her next sip. Often, there was nothing that could help her with idioms. Not even telepathy or the universal translator could grasp the difference between a tunica and a uniform in different cultures and languages.

Stendhal: Certainly, which stars around the bushes are you referring to? Is an idiom or is it a real saying?

Nijal: Response.

Stendhal: Oh, yes, now I see, thank you. You know, idioms have a way of tripping me up, even with telepathy.

Nijal: Response.

Stendhal: I'm sorry, please continue. What would you like to talk about? I'm happy to help! I've been a bit scattered-brained lately. A bit of a rant if it make sense.
Karen experienced a slight nervous twitch. Could it be the other one, the bad one, resurfacing?

Nijal: Response.
